Junior School

Edmund Rice Day
At Trinity College, we are proudly a Catholic school in the tradition of Blessed Edmund Rice. On Tuesday 5 May, we celebrate his Feast Day, a significant moment in our calendar and an opportunity to reflect on the values that continue to shape our community.
Over the coming week, Junior School staff will take time to remind the boys of our rich history and the enduring influence of Edmund Rice. He was a man who recognised the transformative power of education and dedicated his life to offering hope, dignity, and opportunity to young people, especially those most in need.
Born in Ireland in 1762, Edmund witnessed hardship, poverty, and injustice firsthand. Instead of turning away, he responded with compassion and action. He established schools grounded in faith, respect, and a deep belief in the potential of every child. His legacy has shaped generations of learners across the world, including here at Trinity College.
Today, Edmund Rice’s spirit is alive in our classrooms, playgrounds, and relationships. His values, presence, compassion, liberation, and courage continue to guide how we teach, learn, and support one another. We are proud to foster an environment where every boy feels known, valued, and encouraged to grow academically, spiritually, and personally.
For our boys, Edmund’s example is a reminder that leadership begins with kindness, that service enriches our community, and that each person has the capacity to make a positive difference. His legacy challenges us to act with integrity, stand up for justice, and contribute to a school culture where all can flourish.
As we come together as a whole College on Friday 8 May, we look forward to celebrating our Spirit of Community. Your generous support, whether through the Cake Stall, sponsoring your son in the Fun Run, or encouraging him to participate in the day’s activities, helps us continue making a difference to the marginalised, honour Edmund’s legacy, and live out our mantra of being Men for Others.
God Bless,
Mr James McPherson
Head of Junior School
