Pathways News

A busy couple of weeks coming up in the Pathways space.

Year 12s

Yesterday 70 year 12 students completed their Responsible Service of Alcohol training. Thanks to Geelong RSA for great trainers to deliver this useful and practical qualification.

Year 11s

Over the next 3 weeks all year 11 classes will have a Careers Conversation with the Pathways and Senior team. The aim of the session is to gauge students’ progress in year 11 and explore pathways beyond school. Next term all Year 11s will be attending the Geelong Careers Expo on Thursday 30th July at the Geelong Convention Centre.

Year 10s

On Tuesday 19th May, Year 10 students will be commencing their ‘Introduction to VCE and VM’ with an important information session at school followed by a visit to Deakin University Waurn Ponds. Students will hear a joint pathways presentation from the Gordon and Deakin, followed by 2 specialised workshops. Students will be required to wear full school uniform. Consent and payment is on XUNO. This is a compulsory day for year 10s so that they are fully aware of all their options for 2027 and beyond.

Quite a few of our year 10s have been out on Work Experience and WOW programs. Iris Nguyen stepped into the spotlight at Geelong Arts Centre, undertaking multiple diverse tasks and experiences, including the set up for RBG-Of Many, One, designing a youth program and viewing marketing techniques. A huge thank you to the GRLLEN and GAC for supporting this program. Ollie Evans participated in the WOW Digital Technologies program which saw him visit Geelong Ports, Barwon Water and many other prominent Geelong businesses over 3 days, gaining a valuable insight into the realm of info tech in all aspects of the local economy.

Year 9s

On the countdown now to the Geelong Tertiary Futures Program. In June students will be visiting The Gordon TAFE campuses on Thursday 4th, 11th and 18th June. On 2nd and 16th June Workskill sessions will take place at school to complete the theory side of the program. Last week students received their workshops and clothing requirements. They should have a bright blue sheet with all this information. Please check the clothing requirements. The Gordon will have safety boots to borrow if needed. Year 9 students were also busy obtaining their USI numbers last week. Lesa Allison will be running catch up sessions Wednesday lunchtimes in B Block to assist students who were away last week. Please ensure that XUNO permission is given for GTFP. There is no cost as bussing is covered by Skilling The Bay.

White Card Training

This year we have over subscribed our 2 White Card training sessions with the CFMEU with several students on a waitlist. This overwhelming response has been great to see. We are unable to secure the CFMEU for an additional session but have contacted Eclipse training in Geelong for a special session on Monday 29th June (first Monday of holidays). If your child would like to undertake their White Card training and missed out, please contact the Careers team for more information.
