Principal's Report

Mid-Term Progress
As we move towards the middle of the term, students and staff have settled into the routine of work and our VCE students are rapidly working towards the successful completion of either Unit 1 or Unit 3 outcomes.
Students are being supported with a range of measures where possible, including individual focus plans that allow for greater consistency and supports in classrooms across the school.
Teaching staff and our education support staff are working tirelessly, ensuring that students are making progress and with the recent State Government budget announcements, there may be additional funding available to support schools moving forward.
AEU Industrial Action Update
All families should be aware that the current AEU industrial action is still occurring, with the potential for rolling strikes, starting on May 25th.
If this action proceeds locally, we will alert all families if our learning program is compromised due to staff absence. At this point, negotiations are occurring on a daily basis so hopefully the new State Schools Agreement will be finalised and ratified by the end of this term.
There will be more details to come in the ensuing days and weeks, which will be communicated to the entire school community through our Xuno platform.
Regardless of potential strike action, the school will make every effort to continue to provide a high-quality learning environment.
Staff Professional Learning – AI in Education
This week has seen all staff undertake a professional learning day, where the use of AI in planning and classroom activities has been examined.
Given this is a new area of significant technological growth, it was really pleasing to see teachers sharing their knowledge and building their professional practice so that AI tools can be used in a responsible manner in all classrooms.
This relatively new area of technology is rapidly changing what could be possible in the education space, but our staff are attempting to learn as much as they can, so that students are fully informed about how to maximise and safely use these technology tools moving ahead.
It was also very pleasing to see so many staff interacting positively in workshops across the day, which is indicative of the collegiate nature between staff at the school.
As staff build their professional confidence in the use of AI to support teaching and learning, the potential to then engage and help students progress will ensure on-going student learning growth over time.
Upcoming Activities and Events
All families should be aware of some upcoming activities and events that may be of interest:
School Council meeting – Wednesday 20th May
If parents or students have any items that you would like raised at Council, please feel free to contact the school and let us know.
General Assembly – Friday 22nd May
We are actively encouraging parents and family members to attend our General Assembly, where students are recognised and acknowledged for their achievements and progress.
These events are a great way to see all of the wonderful staff and student contributions that occur across the school, and we look forward to seeing as many parents in attendance as is possible. Please reach out to the school if you would like to attend.
Report Writing Day – Tuesday 9th June
This is a student free day.
GAT Exam – Tuesday 16th June
Information about the GAT exam and the organisation for the day will be provided to the school community in the coming week or so.
