Sports Update
Primary School Badminton Championships
Each year, the Shepparton Badminton Association hosts the Primary School Badminton Championships, providing students with a fantastic opportunity to learn, develop their skills, and participate in the sport of badminton. The event caters for a range of ability levels, with Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced divisions available.
St Luke's was fortunate to enter six teams across the three divisions. For some students, this was their first experience playing badminton outside of Physical Education classes, while others regularly participate in the sport outside of school.
Although St Luke's did not claim a championship title this year, our students achieved an outstanding result by finishing runners-up in all three divisions. This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the students' effort, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. The experience has inspired many students to continue developing their skills and return next year with the goal of going one step further.
Congratulations to the following students on coming runner-up:
- Division 1 – Arham Rehan, Harrison Rowe, Panav Khekra, Mikael Casuscelli
- Division 2 – Braxton Camm, Lilliana Emmi, Piper Allen, Renee Karumathy
- Division 3 – Will Higgins, Mac Pearson, Cooper Clurey, Edie Saunders
A highlight of the day was the presentation of special awards sponsored by Canson, the major sponsor of the Shepparton Badminton Association. Students from each division who demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, perseverance, and a willingness to learn were recognised with a badminton racquet.
These awards align closely with the values we strive to foster at St Luke's, making this recognition particularly meaningful. We were proud to have three students receive these awards. Congratulations to Lilliana Emmi, Charlie Emmi, and Mikael Casuscelli. The positive attitude and enthusiasm you displayed throughout the day were wonderful to see.
Congratulations to all students who participated in the championships and represented St Luke's Primary School with pride. Your sportsmanship, effort, and positive behaviour were a credit to both you and our school community.
Winter Sport Update
Throughout this term, our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students have been participating in a variety of sports and representing St Luke's in competitions against other local primary schools.
Unfortunately, the past two Wednesdays have been impacted by poor weather conditions and venue availability, resulting in the cancellation of scheduled sports activities. Despite this, staff were able to provide students with valuable physical activity opportunities by organising a variety of games and activities at the stadium.
With one week of competition remaining, students and staff are hopeful that the weather will allow for one final opportunity to participate. Regardless of the outcome, the program has been a highly positive experience, giving students the chance to develop their skills, demonstrate teamwork and sportsmanship, and enjoy friendly competition with students from other schools.
A special thank you to Mrs Maher, Mrs DeGuzman, and Mr Dyminski for their enthusiasm, support, and commitment in coaching and managing teams throughout the term. Their efforts and dedication have provided students with a wonderful sporting experience and are greatly appreciated.
Sporting Schools – Gymnastics
Over the past three Mondays, Goulburn Valley Gymnastics has been delivering an after-school gymnastics program for our students. The program has focused on developing fundamental gymnastics skills while encouraging students to build confidence, challenge themselves, and embrace new learning opportunities.
This program would not have been possible without the support of Sporting Schools funding, as well as the enthusiasm and commitment of the students who signed up to participate.
We are currently awaiting the outcome of our Term 4 Sporting Schools funding application and are hopeful that St Luke's will be successful. Continued funding will allow us to provide a diverse range of sporting opportunities for our students and families, further promoting lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Athletics Carnival
The St Luke's Athletics Carnival is fast approaching, and students are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable day of participation, teamwork, and friendly competition. The carnival will be held on Tuesday, 1st September at the Shepparton Athletics Track.
