Learning & teaching Term 3 - Week 3
Introducing Impact Assessment (Years 3-6) This term, students in Years 3-6 at St Luke's will begin using Impact Assessment, a curriculum-aligned assessment platform that aligns directly with our units of study from Ochre Education. From September 1st, Ochre Education will be rebranded as Impact Curriculum.
Impact Assessment provides high-quality assessments in areas including English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. These assessments help teachers gain valuable insights into student learning, identify strengths, monitor progress over time and plan targeted teaching to support individual learning needs.
As part of our commitment to evidence-informed practice, the information gathered through Impact Assessment will help us better understand where students are in their learning journey and how we can best support their continued growth and success.
Parents may notice that some English assessment tasks include a ready-made rubric provided by Impact Assessment. These rubrics may occasionally be shared through our Ongoing Assessment space. They can be larger and more detailed than the rubrics we have previously sent home, so please don't be alarmed by their size. The purpose of the rubrics is to provide clear success criteria and detailed feedback about student learning.

NAPLAN dates for 2027
The NAPLAN testing dates for 2027 have been released. Students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN assessments during Term 1, from 10 March to 22 March 2027. Further information regarding the testing schedule will be provided closer to the commencement of assessments. NAPLAN test 'windows' are available online up to 2030.
2027 School Camps Announced
We are excited to announce the Year 3-6 camp program for 2027, offering students a range of engaging, educational and memorable experiences.
Years 3-4: Camp Kookaburra (Term 1)
Students in Years 3 and 4 will attend Camp Kookaburra, located near Corop in the heart of Central Victoria. Nestled within 60 hectares of beautiful rural bushland, Camp Kookaburra provides an outstanding outdoor education experience that encourages teamwork, resilience and independence.
Ideally positioned between the regional centres of Bendigo and Echuca, the camp offers students the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop new skills and create lasting memories in a safe and supportive environment.
Year 5: Sovereign Hill Camp (Term 2)
Our Year 5 students will travel back in time with a visit to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat during Term 2. This immersive camp experience brings the 1850s gold rush era to life through a variety of hands-on activities and educational programs.
Students will enjoy gold panning, guided museum tours, candle dipping, and the spectacular light and sound show, while gaining a deeper understanding of Australia's rich gold rush history.
Year 6: CYC Melbourne City Camp (Term 2)
In Term 2, our Year 6 students will attend the CYC Melbourne City Camp, an exciting experience designed for our school leaders as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Students will explore many of Melbourne's iconic attractions and landmarks, participate in engaging educational activities, and experience all that our vibrant capital city has to offer. The camp provides valuable opportunities to build independence, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories during their final year of primary school.
We look forward to sharing more details about each camp as the year approaches and know these experiences will be highlights of the students' 2027 school year.

Year 1 Excursion
The Year 1 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Echuca as part of their science unit. Students had the opportunity to ride on a historic paddle steamer, where they learned how it operates and about their important role in transporting people and goods along the Murray River in the past.
We also visited TwistED Science, where students participated in a range of engaging hands-on activities and attended a lesson on chemical changes. Through a fun experiment, the students became mini scientists, exploring exciting chemical reactions that produced colour changes, bubbles, and other surprising effects. These experiences helped them develop a deeper understanding of how matter can change and transform.
The students represented our school beautifully, demonstrating enthusiasm, curiosity, and a positive attitude throughout the day. It was a wonderful learning experience that allowed students to connect their classroom learning with real-world applications while having lots of fun along the way.

BOOK WEEK 2026
This year's Book Week will be celebrated from Monday, 24 August to Friday, 28 August.
The theme for 2025 is "Symphony of Stories."
Our annual Dress Up Day will be held on Monday, 24 August, with the parade commencing at 9:00 am on the basketball courts (weather permitting).
Parents and grandparents are warmly invited to attend. We look forward to seeing the wonderful costumes and creativity displayed by both students and staff!

Please note that there will be no Issue 7, as we will be holding our annual Scholastic Book Fair.

OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS
Please remind your child to return any overdue library books.
Currently, 92 library books are overdue, and many students are eagerly waiting to borrow these popular titles. Your support in returning overdue books helps ensure all students have access to the books they are excited to read.
