Year 7 News

Welcome

Where has the year gone? It feels like just yesterday our Year 7 students were nervously finding their way around on day one, and now, somehow, we're already halfway through the year. 

Students returned from the winter break looking settled, refreshed, and ready to get stuck into Semester 2, a great sign for the busy term ahead. With the new semester comes a new round of electives, giving students the chance to explore new interests and subjects, and there have also been some changes to our core homegroups as students settle in for the rest of the year.

It's shaping up to be a full and rewarding term, finishing up with the Thinking Championships in Weeks 9 and 10, a fun, engaging way for students to put their skills to the test and wrap up the term on a high. None of this would run as smoothly as it does without the dedication of our wonderful Year 7 team, whose ongoing support behind the scenes makes all the difference to our students' wellbeing and success. Thank you for everything you do, here's to a great second half of the year!

Holocaust Museum Excursion 

Year 7 English 

Last week, Year 7 students visited the Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick to deepen their understanding of the impact the Holocaust had on people's lives. This excursion ties in with their Term 3 book study, Once by Morris Gleitzman. Students investigated the stories of eight child survivors of the Holocaust who later migrated to Australia and lived out the remainder of their lives here. Throughout the day, students engaged with audiovisual presentations and a reflective vocabulary activity, before boarding the bus back to Churchill. Thank you to Miss Lynch, Miss Barfoot and the English team for making this excursion possible. 

CAMP LOST PROPERTY

SCHOOL SPORT

Netball

On Wednesday the 17th of June, Year 7 students represented Kurnai College at the Wellington Netball Competition in Sale. The cohort entered a Year 7 Churchill girls team and a Year 7 boys team, made up of students from both our Morwell and Churchill campuses. The standard of competition on the day was high, and students gave their all in some challenging matches. It was fantastic to see them displaying great sportsmanship and team-first attitudes throughout the day. 

State Cross Country

Congratulations to Austin McCulloch who competed in the SSV State Combined Primary & Secondary Cross Country recently. Austin came 33rd out of 90 competitors, well done Austin. 

Upcoming Sporting Events

Students who placed first at our college Athletics Day will attend the next stage of Athletics on the 14th of August, we wish those students well. 

We also have Girls Basketball coming up on the 2nd of September and Boys Basketball on the 4th of September. Good luck to all students who will be attending. 

Art News

The Year 7s have created personalised designs on their art portfolios during Week 1 of Term 3.
