Gemma Cook - 8C
Over the term break, Gemma Cook - 8C competed at the 2025 Australian Open Championships at MSAC, achieving some truly outstanding results.
Her most exciting race was the Women’s 200m Multi-Class Freestyle, where she entered ranked 13th, then swam an incredible 13.82-second personal best to qualify for the top 10 final. Gemma went on to place 4th overall (Open Age) and win Silver in the Under 18s—an amazing achievement, especially as she has only just turned 14!
Gemma’s dedication to her training continues to pay off. During the Championships, she was also invited to attend a special session at the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), where she has now been selected to join eight other para swimmers from across Victoria as part of the VIS Development Program. This exciting opportunity focuses on nurturing emerging talent with a long-term vision toward the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the LA Paralympics in 2028, and ultimately, the Brisbane Paralympics in 2032.
We are so proud of Gemma’s achievements and look forward to seeing where her talent and determination take her next!
