From the Director of Learning, Pedagogy and Innovation

I hope the school holidays were both relaxing and re-energising for all members of our community as we move into the final months of the academic year. Term 4 is a time of culmination, celebration, and preparation.

Year 12 Finish

Congratulations to our Year 12 students on the way they concluded their formal schooling this week. As they continue their exam revision, we encourage them to study diligently, maintain healthy sleep and eating habits, and stay physically active.

All Unit 3 & 4 teachers will be available during scheduled class times to provide on-site support. This support will continue up to and including the day of each subject's exam.

We also extend our best wishes to our Year 12 students for their upcoming Unit 3 & 4 exams. It is heartening for our College community to see them approach this important time with grace, confidence, and maturity.

Year 12 VCE Exams

Year 12 students preparing for their VCE exams later this month undertook a trial examination period at the end of Term 3. During this time, students sat practice exams for each of their enrolled units. These exams serve multiple purposes, and students were encouraged to approach them thoughtfully.

Practice exams help students assess their understanding of course material. They closely resemble the actual exams, allowing students to identify strengths and areas for improvement. The act of recalling information during practice enhances memory retention and reinforces learning, making it easier to retrieve that knowledge during the real exams. Mistakes or challenges can highlight specific topics that need further review.

Taking practice exams also helps students familiarise themselves with the format and structure of the actual papers. This includes understanding the types of questions (multiple choice, short answer, essay, practical, etc.) and managing time effectively under exam conditions. Being prepared in this way helps reduce anxiety and improves time allocation during the real exam.

Our teachers are commended for their dedication in providing students with targeted feedback focused on revision and improvement. Upon receiving feedback, students are encouraged to engage with the explanations provided, ask clarifying questions, and adjust their study routines accordingly. By doing so, they can learn from their mistakes, understand correct answer patterns, and enhance their problem-solving skills.
