From our Principal

Christine Pillot

Here we are, well into the swing of term 4.  It has been lovely to see students confidently return back to school and re-engage in their programs.  Over the past two Friday assemblies, we've presented principal awards to a large number of students who have been showing the school values and applying great effort with their learning tasks; it's been a great pleasure to read and present these.

Secondary Camp

This week a group of Secondary students attended Blackwood Camp where they enjoyed many team activities and challenges including, archery, camp fire making, bush cooking, team games and rock climbing.  The camp focus was team work and resilience, students did exceptionally well in trying new tasks and giving everything a go.  Campers were fortunate to use the new dining room and eat the food from the new catering service.  Carbonara and garlic bread was the highlight for everyone.  Once again, Blackwood staff where very accommodating and worked well with our students and staff to cater for our needs and provide a fun camping experience.

Canine Comprehension

Today we welcomed Louise and her therapy dog, Harmony to the school.  Harmony comes to us through the organisation Canine Comprehension to focus on supporting students wellbeing for learning readiness with animal assisted therapy.

Louise and Harmony worked in a number of classrooms today and will continue to each Friday for the next 8 weeks with a specific wellbeing and learning focus on friendships and safety.  Students responded positively to Harmony during the introduction and welcome session today, showing interest and care.

New Building Names

Last term school council and staff gave input to new building names.  It was decided that local native plant names would be the theme.  Following this, students voted on plant names they most like to become our new building names.  The top four to be used as our new names are, Red Gum, Lilly Pilly, Banksia and Gravillea.

Senior Secondary students graphed the votes to identify the top four.  Well done, particularly to Lara on her bar graph work.

Showcase and Shine

Next term we look forward to our annual whole school community event, the Showcase and Shine.  We encourage families to save the date to come and join in the fun.  This will be on Wednesday 3 December, 5-7pm.
