Cricket Academy Update

Our students performed admirably during inter-school sport carnivals earlier in Term 4, with several strong performances across each match. Likewise, our regular school-based intra-academy practice matches provided opportunities for students to showcase their batting, bowling, fielding, wicket-keeping, teamwork and leadership skills in live centre-wicket competition.

We’re hopeful of expanding the opportunities for competitive matches against other school cricket teams / academies into next year and beyond.

During our final session, our Cricket and Rugby Academies came together to share a BBQ sausage sizzle, which is also something we intend to do more often into 2026.

Lastly, many thanks to all our Cricket Academy students, and their families, for supporting this exciting new initiative. I look forward to working with you all again over the coming twelve months as we continue to build our school cricket community in the year(s) to follow.

Lara Secondary College Rugby Academy – Tournament Success at Mernda Central

On Wednesday 10th December 2025, our Rugby Academy travelled to Mernda Central College for a mixed Sevens Touch Tournament, bringing together both new and returning academy students for a full day of competitive, fast-paced rugby. With two fields in operation, 7-minute halves, and a tight schedule, the tournament delivered high-intensity play from the opening whistle.

Our academy teams represented Lara Secondary College with skill, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship throughout all pool and finals matches. After a strong morning of competition players regrouped during the midday break before stepping into the Cup Semi-Finals.

We are proud to share that our two Lara SC teams finished third and first respectively—an exceptional achievement showcasing the depth of talent within our academy group.

Congratulations to all participating students for representing the college with pride and demonstrating the academy values across every match. A special thank you to staff, coaches, and parents who assisted with preparation and supervision.

The tournament provided an excellent opportunity for new academy members to gain experience and for returning students to demonstrate leadership—setting a strong foundation heading into the 2026 season.

STUDENT SHOUTOUT

Well done to Achilles Putaura, who represented NSW Samoa U16 Rugby union side in the Pasifika Youth Cup over the weekend. Achilles played in the age group above his usual one and his team went through the tournament undefeated. Achilles was selected as the starting half back for his team throughout the tournament.

“We are grateful for the Lara Rugby Academy as it has made a huge difference in his development. Achilles really enjoys Lara Secondary College as a whole and we are very grateful to be part of the school”.

There are plenty of proud staff members, including a very proud Coach! Great work Achilles.
