MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE LIBRARY

It has come the time of the year where it’s the time to say goodbye to another exciting and eventful year in the Lara Secondary College library. 

This is the last newsletter for the year, so on behalf of all the library staff and duty staff, we would love to wish you all and your families a happy and safe Holiday season. Be safe, be happy and remember to help others and be kind. 

Since my time started here in July, we have been so busy. I jumped straight into Book week. We managed to organize some fun activities for the week and had lots of fun. Thanks to the students who participated and won the prizes.

Speaking of prizes, thank you to Adventure Park for providing 4 day passes as a prize for our competitions, we appreciated it a lot and I am sure the winners will be thrilled. 

Then we had lots to do with new books coming in, lots of organizing and BIG THANKS to Casey Wallis, she showed me the ropes, and how the library was run. We worked well together and from the feedback we were an awesome team. THANK you, Casey, for all your help.

Then we had a fun Halloween Display of Spooky ghosts, cobwebs and the scary books. Finally, we are at the end and the stocktake will begin next week. Wish me luck. 

Thank you to all the lovely staff and students who came into the library and helped made it a special place. Let’s hope we continue to build new interest as the new year 7 students arrive next year.

•  Just a reminder. SPINECRACKERS Book club, 

Occurs on the Last Thursday of the term. Nibbles are provided while we talk about topics related to the books and show the new books to students. This is a great opportunity to suggest new series that you might like. We have plenty of room and would love for some new members, and especially the 2026 year 7 students. Just call into the library to register your details.

Requesting books for the Library 

Do you have a book you’d like to read?  Come into the library to see if we have it.  If we don’t, let us know and we can investigate buying the book.  If the book is available on SORA it can be in our ebook library within 24 hours.  This book can be read via the SORA app.

Students can also email:  library@larasc.com  to request books.
