Scholastic Bookclub

I can still remember the excitement of holding the Bookclub catelogue in my hands as a primary school student, quite a while ago now, and flicking through it to find something that I wanted to add to my small collection of books at home.

Not much has changed!

Whilst I now regularly explore bookshops and libraries as an adult with a passion for reading, I still always flick through the Bookclub catelogue when it arrives in our classroom, and almost always find a title that looks compelling to investigate for the class. It gives me so much joy to see our students eagerly turning pages to discover what the latest catelogue holds, and the excitement of Delivery Day for those lucky readers that have a purchase on order.

I feel similar excitement when I receive an order of books for our school. You may not know that we earn ‘scholastic points’ following every school order, which we can then ‘spend’ on books for our school. Over the last 5 years, Marnie and I have ‘purchased’ big books for classroom use, sets of books for guided reading groups, picture story books that have featured in National Simultaneous Storytime, fiction and non fiction titles for the library and sets of class dictionaries.

Most recently, I was able to order 50 copies of the same title, Rowan of Rin, for our Year 4s to use as their class novel throughout next term.

Being able to use Bookclub points is an economical way for us to boost our literacy resources, while fostering an excitement for reading. We are very grateful to be a part of this wonderful program, skillfully co-ordinated by Anne Lambert, a member of our parent community.

Thank you for supporting Scholastic Bookclub in our school, and happy reading!
