Year 4 Pilgrimage to St Patrick’s Cathedral

Our Year 4 students recently had the wonderful opportunity to go on a pilgrimage to St Patrick’s Cathedral. We began our morning in Fitzroy Gardens, where we enjoyed a quick snack before gathering together for prayer and reflection.

I enjoyed seeing the gargoyles. I felt really happy and reverent during mass. I liked learning about the history and how it was built - Summer

A very special thank you to David, who toured our students around the outside of St Patrick’s Cathedral and shared many wonderful stories and pieces of history with us. The students loved discovering the many details of the Cathedral and learning about the people and history connected to this beautiful place.

The stained glass windows were amazing. Each panel of the stained glass window told a story. I was amazed at how tall the Cathedral was in real life - Mitchell

We would also like to say a very big thank you to Brother Xavier, who joined us for our pilgrimage and helped guide our groups inside the Cathedral. He helped the students to understand the meaning behind the different sacred spaces and encouraged them to stop, look, listen and wonder.

I learnt the faces around the cathedral are real people. I felt brave and prayerful when I received the blessing during mass. I enjoyed seeing the Mary MacKillop statue. - Danny

One of the most beautiful parts of the day was seeing the students simply stop and take in the

Cathedral. They looked up at the incredible architecture, noticed the light coming through the stained-glass windows and spent quiet moments in prayer.

I felt happy because I saw the Mary MacKillop statue and we went inside her chapel in the cathedral. I enjoyed learning about the history of St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the gargoyles on the outside. - Charlie

It was lovely eating near the gardens. It was so peaceful - Emilia

During the excursion I enjoyed receiving the Eucharist during mass. - Johnny

St Vincent De Paul - Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

Please see below a thank you from our local St Vincent De Paul Conference, for our geneorous donations this winter!

Dear Students, Families and Staff of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop PS,

This year has been difficult for many families. We have visited families that have never requested any assistance before and thought that they never would, including some people who are without a home.

Thank you so much for the toiletries that you have collected this winter for the Epping St. Vincent de Paul Conference. We have already begun distributing these to families in need. The supply of toiletries helps in keeping us healthy and feeling good, which can be difficult when times are hard.

We would like to thank all children and families for your support and the school staff for the time and encouragement you have given to this appeal. We know what a mammoth effort goes into these activities.

The families we assist all live in our local area and are very grateful for your kindness and generosity.

It is because of the support given by our parish schools and parishioners that we are able to provide assistance to families in our area in their time of need, and you are a key part of this community. Well done and God bless you all.

Yours sincerely,

Members Epping Conference
