Principal's Report

Principal's Report

Principal Report

It’s been a fantastic Term 1 across all our programs - Primary, Secondary, CAS and Wurun Senior Campus.  I would like to thank all parents, carers, guardians for their support of the College and their young people. The newsletter has captured some fantastic events that have taken place and celebrated across all programs. It’s great to highlight outstanding student achievement and the commitment of all of our staff to the whole Collingwood community.

Harmony Week

We celebrated Harmony week across Collingwood from 17th - 21st March. Some amazing events were held during lunchtimes including - a photography and chalk drawing competition,  documentaries and readings, a cultural dress up day including a march for harmony and finally a concert that demonstrated dance, music and song. It was wonderful to see the contribution of families and students to all of these events.

The incredible yearly highlight is our Iftar dinner. Thank you to all of our Collingwood community who contributed to the incredible feast for us all to share in.

I want to thank our Community Liaison Officers (CLO’s) - Hussein, Hassen and Badria, all staff who contributed. A special shout out to Felicia Peh - our leading teacher for EAL, LBOTE and International student program, who led the coordination and communication of these events.

VCE Top Talks - Extended Investigation - Sha’Quilla Williams

In term one, one of our 2024 Wurun Senior Campus alumni was chosen to present her outstanding oral report at the VCAA Season of Excellence Top talks for Extended Investigation. She was one of four students across the state chosen to present.

Sha’Quilla Williams presented her oral report on the extent to which British colonial influence on mental asylums in Nigeria was a form of colonial social control. Sha’Quilla received one of the highest marks for her thesis and presentation and achieved an outstanding study score in this academically challenging subject.

Congratulations to Sha’quilla for this amazing achievement. It shows the level of student capability and the tremendous guidance and support from our teachers at Wurun Senior Campus.

Outside Hours School Care (OHSC) - new provider

Their Care is our new Outside Hours School Care provider. Please see our Compass post for how to book from Tuesday 22nd April. This will be their first day. Theircare are also part of our Thursday market as they look to meet many of you in our community. Please feel free to talk to them about their program and how it will be different from our current provider.

Building projects

We are seeing the continued renewal of the College through the ongoing building projects. By the end of Term 1 holidays, the replacement of decking will have taken place on ground level near our canteen, kitchen and outside hours school care (OHSC).

Our roof project is still ongoing and will begin next term. No interruption will take place for our classrooms during these works. It is likely to take Term 2 and 3 to complete this project.

We will have more news in early Term 2 regarding the Theatre refurbishment.

Collingwood College Open Day - April 1st

We had over 80 families tour across the day in Primary, Secondary and at Wurun Senior Campus. Thank you to all our staff for their commitment and dedication for creating displays of student work. When you next have the chance please check out our corridors and classrooms proudly displaying our student’s achievements.

Thanks to all the parents and families that supported our working bee on Saturday.  Special thanks to Terry Burdak who offered to lead and coordinate the day. It was fantastic to see our school looking so great - a tremendous advertisement for Collingwood and its fabulous programs.

We look forward to seeing you all return for Term 2 on Tuesday 22nd April.

Kind regards,

Chris Millard
