School Sport Victoria Soccer Trials
On Thursday, the 1st of May, I went to the SSV soccer trials. The trials started at 9.30am and I was feeling really excited. We began with some warm-up exercises and then did a few soccer drills. Afterwards, we were placed into different teams so that everyone had the chance to play with a variety of players. Each team had its own-coloured jersey: pink, royal blue, light blue, grey, or maroon. I was in the light blue team and my jersey number was 9.
The trials were held in the Eastern Region, which is said to be the hardest region in Victoria. I played as a left midfielder in all three matches, and the competition was really tough. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it through to the next round of trials.
Even though I didn’t get through, it was a great experience meeting so many good soccer players, and I had loads of fun. Special thanks to Ms Hocking and Mr Perini for giving me this amazing opportunity and to my parents for taking me to and from the trials.
Divesh – Year 6
I went to trial for the Victorian Soccer team. My dad and I had to drive 40 minutes to get to the ground. When we got there, it was very cold. We were set into groups and there were so many girls. I trialled as a goalkeeper which was especially hard because I had to stay in goals for the whole two hours. It was hard to save the goals because the girls there had big kicks. Overall although I didn't get through, I was super proud of myself. I want to thank Ms Hocking for nominating me and my parents for paying and driving me to the ground and back and waiting in the cold.

Archery
This is about my experience at the Archery Indoor Nationals.
Recently, I had the opportunity to compete at the Indoor Nationals, where I placed 8th overall. While I was aiming higher, I’m still proud of the result. It was a tough competition and I gave it my best. We shot 120 arrows over two days. The bow weighs 3kg which gets very heavy after a while.
Currently, I’m ranked 6th in Victoria and 10th nationally. This competition was a great reminder of how much I’ve grown as an archer and how much more I want to achieve. It was an intense experience filled with talented athletes from all over the country. It really pushed me to test my focus, consistency and mental strength.
There were moments where things didn’t go as planned, but that’s how you learn. Every shot taught me something new. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait to keep training and keep improving.

Selected Years 5 and 6 students participated in District Senior Hoop Time Basketball on Thursday 28 August, at Nunawading Basketball Stadium in Burwood East.
The competition day finally arrived after many training sessions at school, for all the teams. Congratulations to all six teams who participated on the day; two Allstars, two Futures girls and two Futures boys teams. It was great to see our students showing teamwork and sportsmanship.
Huge thank you to Miss Kemp for co-ordinating the team selection. Also, thanks to Miss Boles for her help on the day and with the training sessions. Many thanks to our parent community who coached and scored on the day: Milhem Nassour, John Colley, Pia Ahmet, Karen Zhang, Carlo Russo, Christine Smith, Kelly Lukies and Hilary Leigh.
Congratulations to the Girls’ Allstars who came runners up and will compete at Division next term. Also well done to both the Girls’ Futures team who played off in the final, unfortunately there can only be one winner. Congratulations to the Year 5 girls who will progress to the Hoop Time finals in Term 4. Thanks to my son Nathan for coaching the team who were undefeated.
Monique Hocking
On 28th August some Year 5 and 6s participated in a round robin basketball competition against five schools. There were six teams from our school. We played in the Girls’ Allstars team, playing four games and a final. We have eight players on our team. We won three games and lost one then came runners up in the grand final. This has qualified us to go onto the Division Basketball which is held next term. Everyone had a lot of fun and enjoyed the day.
We would like to thank John, Milhem and Carlo for coaching us throughout the day and Christine for scoring. Thanks also to Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for organising this event for us, and all the parents and teachers who came to coach and support all the teams.
