What do you think?

What thoughts do you have throughout the day? The night?

Students can have thoughts to learn, teachers have thoughts about what to teach, and parents and carers have thoughts about how to raise their children. We have many thoughts throughout the day and night. Some intentional, while others are random. There are negative and positive thoughts. 

I wonder how many thoughts we have every day?

How do we have good and positive thoughts? What can help us with our thinking?

People wear different types of hats and helmets to protect their heads and their minds. There are bicycle helmets to protect heads when riding a bike. Caps to protect us from the sun. Builders have hard hats to protect them from things falling on their heads. There are cricket helmets to protect cricketers when playing. And motorbike helmets when riding a motorbike. These are specific hats and helmets for specific occasions. They not only protect but send a message about what is happening. It would seem silly to wear a cricket helmet to the shops. Or a motor bike helmet to school.

The Bible talks about a specific helmet that helps protect our head and our minds. It talks about the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17). The picture it talks about is of a Roman Centurion helmet that protects the soldier in times of battle. The helmet also lets people know who the soldier is, and whose the soldier belongs to and what army is he in. It shows that the soldier is not alone but part of something bigger. And the helmet protects the soldiers head, ears, neck and brain.

God’s helmet that he gives to us is even better. It is not a helmet we can see but it protects our head and our minds. It helps protect our thoughts. God’s helmet is the hope of salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:8). The hope that Jesus died and rose for us to save us and give us eternal life.

So, if we have negative thoughts or are reminded of times when we have not loved but hurt people, we can hear again of how much God loves us and has saved us because of Jesus Christ. This gives us hopeful thoughts and protects our thinking and thoughts.

God’s helmet of salvation also sends a message to our enemies that God is protecting us and that we are part of something bigger. A bigger family of God so we are never alone. 

So put on the helmet of salvation to protect your head and mind for you are saved and loved by Jesus Christ.
