On Tuesday 4th August, the soccer boys made the bus trip to Fraser Rise to compete at Region Soccer. We were ready; we had done all the training and made sure we were set to play.

Holy Cross 2  vs  Sunshine North PS 1

Goals: Jameson Howley & Oliver Lloyd

The game was a great game with two great goals by Oliver Lloyd and Jameson Howley.

Jameson was doing really great as striker, as well as Oliver Lloyd, Max Allen and James W in midfield, and the defense with Eoin, Jack, and George doing really good in defence. The game was really good, and I feel the highlight was celebrating with Oliver and Jameson.

Holy Cross 0  vs  Creekside PS 1

In this game we did pretty good. We had lots of the ball and used the ball well. Even though we lost, we still played really well. With the shots from Maxwell and Finnan, we were really unlucky not to score. During the game, our defence did really well. Harrison and Eoin were doing great in defence not to let them score. And the highlight of the game for me was doing what I do best and being a supportive team player.

Holy Cross 0  vs  St. Peter’s PS 3

In this game we were all tired after the other ones, but we still did good and tried our best. Our mids Finnan, James W and Mitchell did help in defence, as well as Jameson as striker coming back to help in defence. Eoin, James D and Jack C did a superb job clearing the ball and Hudson did great trying not to let anything in - he made some magic saves! My highlight was when everyone came together to play the last game even when everyone was tired.

Thank you to Mr Wenczel for coaching us and to all the parents and teachers for their support on the day. We couldn’t have done it without you.

On Tuesday the 11th of August, the Holy Cross AFL nines football team went to the regional championships to compete against other schools from the Western Metro area.

In the first game, we beat Wembley Primary School by about 70 points. We played well with our midfield of Jack P James W Beckham and Jacob. In the second game, we beat Canna Primary School by even more. Some standouts Tom G and Henry M from the backline took some nice intercept marks, while Ollie and Jameson used their speed running out of defence and helping the midfield. Overall the whole team displayed high pressure during this game.

Heading into the last round, we were very worried. Strathmore Primary School was our toughest competitor, if we won, we would be competing in the grand final but sadly, we lost. Although we didn't win, our forwards Max and Jack played really well, helping us be up at half time, and kicking goals when it was needed. shout out to James D who played really well in the backline all day.

It was unlucky that Ethan and Max A were away and didn’t play, they would have had a great time. Overall all the players had lots of fun. Thank you to Mrs Peake and all the parents who made this day possible.

District Basketball

Girls Team

In our first game we played Braemar, it was a good start by Ashleigh kicking us off with a goal, but Breamar was too good and shot a lot more goals, Saige’s defence was really strong stopping a few of their goals but sadly we lost by roughly 15 points. In our second game we played St. Brigid’s Grace. H was doing really well shooting plenty of goals on our team and a good job by Angelica for getting a lot of steals but sadly lost again by roughly 12 points. In our third game we played New Gisborne, it was a tight one with Aysha’s defence up and Grace. S moving the ball down to our end of the court and we ended up tying 8-8. Our final game was against Riddles Creek. They were the toughest team we played, but we weren't giving up. Adelaide's great passes were getting us some goals and Amelie's defence was stopping them from scoring, but sadly lost by about 22 points. My highlight was shooting 7 goals. Thank you to the team for putting up a great fight. And a special thank you to Tate for coaching us and Kath for scoring and cheering us on during the game.
