Year 5 Camp highlights

– Harriet, Emily and Eliza (Year 5 students)

Our excited Year 5 students set off to the country this week, travelling to Marysville, in the beautiful foothills of Lake Mountain!

Day 1 – Crate climbing, pizza making and canoeing

– By Harriet H.

Everybody in grade 5 awoke feeling happy - we’re going to camp! At 8.30am we put on our school bags and headed off to school.

When we got on the bus we got comfortable because it was a 2 hour trip to camp Marysville. When we got there we were all very excited to find out who was in our cabins. Once that was sorted, we got into our activity groups. Such as Miss Tania’s group, Miss Rani and Miss Janelle’s group, Mr Euan’s group, Mr Jac’s and all the parent helpers. We then went to our different activities. Such as crate stacking where you stacked crates in a harness until it got all wobbly, pizza making, where you found herbs in the garden to put on your pizza, and canoeing in the lake with a partner!

After a big day of fun, we ate a dinner of roast chicken and veggies and went to sleep.

Day 2 – Camping, archery and a bushfire museum

– By Emily S.

The excitement began as soon as we heard the boy’s cabin yelling. Everyone woke up looking forward to another day at Camp Marysville. For breakfast we had toast, cereal and hash browns. We then packed for camping in tents on the farm. After that we left our bags on the basketball court and went to the archery place. One of the boys got a bull (which is the outer layer of the yellow bit). Then we went to lunch, which was chicken burgers. They were delicious. We had to do one more activity before we went to the camp site, which was a walk around town and we went to the bushfire museum, the funniest bit was when our instructor fell through the floor boards. On the way back we had a quick stop at the playground. Then we walked back and got ready to hike around the paddocks to get our tents ready for the night. We had dinner and soon it was time for bed.

Day 3 – Yarra Valley Chocolatery

– By Eliza M.

Our school camp was an experience we will never forget because on the last day of camp we woke up and had breakfast, then we waited for the bus to arrive at 9:30. When we got on the bus we had to go on a very windy road, but after the windy road we went to the Yarra Valley Chocolatery

When we got there we got to taste different types of chocolate. They were all so delicious. Then we made a giant chocolate lollipop, and we got to decorate it with lollies and more chocolate. After making lollipops we got some ice cream and I got wild berry sorbet. We then learned how chocolate is made and the different ingredients that go into creating it. When we got off the bus we stopped at a park for 15min to have lunch. After that we got back to school and camp was all over.
