Book Week highlights

What an amazing Book Week it was! This was thanks to everyone's phenomenal enthusiasm and participation in our celebrations last week! From fabulous costumes and exciting competitions, to our Books to Life incursion Being Indy, and our Book Fairs.

The students' Book Week costumes were fabulous, as was their participation in the parade and their generosity with gold coin donations. Together we raised an incredible $538.80 for Reading Out of Poverty, our highest Dress Up Day fundraising total in years! A special congratulations to 2AB, who won the prize for raising the most money. Well done!

A huge thank you also to all the families who supported our online and onsite Book Fairs. Thanks to your generosity, we accumulated approximately $350 worth of new and sponsored books for our library! Also, a big congratulations to the 12 lucky students who won Golden Ticket gift packs at the onsite Book Fair, and to Sylvie Cooke from 3C, who won the Online Book Fair Raffle!

And finally, congratulations to the winners of our Battle of the Books Trivia Competitions 2CD and 5CD! Both classes winning by just ONE POINT, thanks to their amazing knowledge of books and our school library.

Dress up winners

It was fabulous to see so many creative costumes around PMPS – and we loved seeing our teachers getting in on the action too!

We went on a trip down memory lane, seeing a mix of characters from classics to new favourites. From Odysseus and Zeus from The Odyssey (which our Year 6 students studied an abridged version of this year), to Moonface and the Saucepan Man from The Magic Faraway Tree, and then newer characters like Neville the Penguin from Neville’s Great Escape!

ABC broadcasting live

The ABC News Breakfast program filmed a live broadcast from our Library on our Dress Up Day. Reporter, Stephanie Ferrier interviewed Mr Cain and a small group of students about Book Week. It was a great insight into the world of TV production (and our students learnt that a lot of patience is required waiting for the studio to cut across for the live broadcast).

Book Week performance

The whole school enjoyed a fabulous performance called Being Indy – based on the CBCA-shortlisted picture book written by Zoe Gaetjens. The story was adapted for the stage and performed by "Tony Bones" Appleby.

Being Indy is a story of trying to fit in and discovering the true worth of being yourself. A tale of courage, kindness, and finding your place in a world that says you don’t belong.
