Principal's update

Message from Tom Cain

As previously communicated, next term I will be stepping away from Port Melbourne Primary School for a period to take on the role of Acting Principal at Melbourne High School.

 

I’m excited about the opportunity, although stepping away brings mixed emotions. This is a school and community I care deeply about, and I am enormously proud of what we have achieved together over recent years.

 

I’m also very pleased that Katie Klajnblat will step into the Acting Principal role. Katie knows our school, our students and our community exceptionally well, and I have enormous confidence in her leadership. I’m also excited about the opportunity this presents for Katie in her own leadership journey. I know she will bring great care, energy and commitment to the role, supported by our outstanding leadership team and staff.

 

I’m looking forward to making the most of the remaining weeks of term together before Katie and I both begin our new roles in Term 4.

Message from Katie Klajnblat

I’m really excited to be stepping into the role of Acting Principal for Term 4 and to continue working alongside our wonderful students, staff and families. I’m looking forward to leading the school through the term with a fantastic leadership team around me, while continuing to build on the many things that make our school such a special place. I’m incredibly proud to be part of our school community and of the wonderful work our students and staff achieve every day.

 

For me, education has always been about learning and achieving your best. I believe learning is at the heart of what we do, and I want every student to leave primary school with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that sets them up well for whatever comes next. I want our students to be challenged, to have high expectations of themselves and to feel proud of what they can achieve.

 

But primary school is also about so much more than what happens in the classroom. It’s about making friends, trying new things, discovering what you enjoy, being part of a team, having fun and creating memories along the way. I hope that when our students look back on their primary school years, they remember not only what they learned, but the people, experiences and moments that made their time at school special.

 

Outside of school, I’m happiest enjoying the things that matter most to me, especially spending time with my family. I have two adult children and love seeing them enjoying life with their partners. My favourite person to spend time with, though, is my two-year-old grandson, who certainly keeps me on my toes and brings plenty of fun and laughter to our family. I also love travelling with my husband and, when we’re at home, there’s nothing quite like a quiet Friday night cooking over the firepit while listening to country music.

 

I’m really looking forward to Term 4 and excited about the opportunities ahead. I’m proud to be part of our school and look forward to continuing the great work we do together as we finish the year strongly.
