First Nations

On Monday 15th June, our First Nations students attended the Indigenous Careers Expo at the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo. The day began with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country, providing students with an opportunity to connect with and celebrate culture before engaging in the expo activities.

Inside the theatre, students explored a wide range of education, training, and employment pathways through conversations with exhibitors representing various industries and organisations. They were encouraged to ask questions, learn about potential career options, and gain an understanding of the supports available to help them achieve their goals.

Students also had the opportunity to hear from a panel of three inspiring First Nations speakers who shared their personal career journeys, highlighting the different pathways they had taken and the challenges and successes they experienced along the way.

The day concluded with a high-energy Hip Hop performance and workshop delivered by the Hip Hop Indigenous Outreach Project, where students enthusiastically participated and enjoyed expressing themselves through music and movement.

It was a fantastic day that provided students with meaningful cultural experiences, valuable insights into future career opportunities, and the chance to connect with other young mob from across the region. The event fostered a strong sense of pride, aspiration, and community while encouraging students to think positively about their future pathways.

While there, Josh entered a competition run by the Richmond Football Club, challenging participants to guess the number of gumballs in a jar—and he was the winner!
