As we head into the final weeks of Term 1 it has been great to see the progress students have been making in their learning. There is a lot to celebrate over the last two weeks and looking into the final two weeks of term.

Farewell Kim

After almost 12 years of dedicated service, we farewell a valued staff member Kim - one of our education support staff, as she moves on to a new role outside of education.

She has contributed in the admin office, classrooms, and even led our yoga lunchtime club, making a positive impact on our whole school community.

New shade sail over junior playground

We’re excited to share that a new shade sail has been installed over our Junior playground, creating a safer and more comfortable space for students to play and learn. This improvement means children can enjoy outdoor time with better protection from the sun throughout the year. Thank you to the school council for advocating for this wonderful addition for our school community.

Prep School Tours - 2027

We had our first school tour yesterday which was well attended. It is always great to showcase our school and show prospective parents all of the great things that are happening at EVPS. They were very impressed with how focused our current Prep students were on their learning.

A big thank you to our school leaders Zara, Nikhita, Aidan and Ethan who represented our school with pride and answered parent questions with confidence. If you know a family who has a Prep student in 2027 share the information about our school tours and information night.

Applications for 2027 open on the 20th April

Leading Instructional Excellence: A Focus on Explicit Teaching

Recently members of our leadership team attended the Leading Instructional Excellence program through the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Across two days they learned about strengthening explicit teaching practices across our school.

The program reinforced the importance of clear, structured instruction—where teachers model learning, break content into manageable steps, and check for understanding throughout lessons. We explored how consistent use of explicit teaching helps students feel more confident, stay engaged, and build strong foundations in their learning.

As a school, we are working to make this approach consistent across all classrooms.  We will continue to provide you with updates about what’s happening in classrooms and also you can ask your children about what changes they are seeing.

ABORIGINAL GATHERING PLACE

This week Jess Duncan and I were fortunate to attend a meeting at the Aboriginal Gathering Place in South Morang. If you are looking for a family outing or place to visit on the weekend it is well worth the visit.

The Aboriginal Gathering Place in South Morang is a significant new cultural and community space that has been developed.

It’s intended to:

  • Strengthen connections between Elders, young people, and families
  • Support cultural knowledge-sharing and traditions
  • Promote reconciliation and understanding across the wider community Importantly, it’s not just for Aboriginal people—there will be opportunities all community members to learn about culture and history through events and programs
