Debaters kick off a new year

On Wednesday, March 11 Mullauna’s four teams in the Debating Association of Victoria’s inter-school competition debating teams – a Year 12 (A Grade), a  Year 11 team (B Grade) , a Year 10 (C Grade) and a Year 9 team (D Grade) – went to Tintern Grammar to continue our proud tradition of taking it up to schools from across the Ringwood region. All the debaters represented Mullauna well, but none of the teams scored a win.

In their debate against Mt Lilydale Mercy College, Year 12s Caitlin, Sam and Oliver argued strongly that the cosmetics and fashion industries do more harm than good. Caitlin did especially well given that it was her first inter-school debate.

Year 11s Bella, Ethan, and Charlotte also gave it a good shot in arguing against Donvale Christian College that the government should require all police officers to wear and activate body-worn cameras when on duty. They were coached by Mr Graham.

Year 10s April, Grey, and Nathan did well in a debate against Oxley Christian College. They argued we should ban airlines from overbooking flights. Ms Watson is their coach.

Our Year 9s Delara, Christina, and Michelle also made Mullauna proud in debating Koonung Secondary College. They argued that it should be free to camp in all national parks in Australia. The team was only one point away from the winning team and received high praise from the adjudicator. Ms Davidson is their coach.
