Transitions Into Mullauna SC

On the 28th of January, us Year 7s entered school with excitement yet nervousness. We had many thoughts, wonderings and worries. This is where our path turns to a different direction, the day our life changes.

The start of Year 7 was quite nerve racking. But looking back, there was no reason to be nervous at all. The teachers were very kind and welcoming, understanding that we had no clue what we were doing and what we were going to do. They guided us through our first couple of weeks at school. Going to a completely new school with different rules, expectations, faculty and people seems hard and scary. But trust me, It’s not. Adapting to a new school and making new friends couldn’t have been easier than it was.

And to make making friends easier… in week 4, we got to go to CAMP! I’m not even kidding; I currently have more friends in high school more than I’ve ever had in primary school. I’ve been told high school is a nightmare many times, but those people have no idea what they’re talking about. The Mullauna community is one of the nicest communities I’ve ever been in. The students, parents, teachers and faculty in general are the nicest people I’ve ever met. I’ve 100% made the right decision of putting Mullauna in first on my preference list. I can’t express how grateful I am to be a part of this school.

Already in Term 1 you have so many opportunities in general. Like for an example being a year 7 SRC (Student Representative Captain) or competing for Mullauna for swimming and inter school sports. And I just want to remind you; all this happened in a single term… Wow. And It’ll only get better. Just to finish this off, all year 7s are pretty satisfied with their first term at Mullauna. Thank you for reading.

My start to high school was different. Well, different to what I thought it would be like. I had about 2 close friends transitioning into high school with me and about 5 people I knew of going as well. In transition, I was put in a class with zero of the people I knew, apart from some people who went to my primary school. I was very closed and had my guard up, nevertheless as we went through the day, with a bunch of icebreakers, my guard slowly disintegrated. A person in my class came up to me and asked to be friends. I have been friends with that person ever since.

On the first day of school, I was introduced to a friend group. I have been friends with those people ever since. It really shows what a little question or even a compliment can do. A couple things I have enjoyed about high school Is the flexibility and trust they have in students; it allows a lot more independence and responsibility which I love. Also, I enjoy having a locker, it makes transitioning from class-to-class way more enjoyable and again, offering independence. The teachers have been super lovely and supportive of all students. Compass Is a very cooperative platform that also helped in my transition. I can check my schedule and tasks all in one place, It’s awesome.

The staff at Mullauna have been compassionate and caring the whole way through. I now get more opportunities and achieve more goals because of the way they helped people settle into the school. Most of the help that helped me survive the long first few weeks of school was their understanding, they acknowledged that it was a hard and complicated journey, and made it softer, and more learnable. I have gone to, Year 7 Toolangi camp, year 7 BBQ night, participated in the-whole school swimming carnival and more homely events that made me feel like I belonged. High school, so far, has been a different, challenging, colourful place and I can’t wait for new opportunities and years to come.
