LS3 Seniors Learning Expo: Uncovering Our History & Culture
We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible hard work, dedication, and creativity our LS3 Seniors displayed at the recent Learning Expo!
Throughout Term 3, our students took a deep dive into an overarching question: "How do people, places, and cultures change over time?"
To answer this, each student researched, designed, and presented three impressive projects:
- Journeys to Sainthood: Students investigated a Saint of their choice, tracing their life path, personal growth, and the transformative journey that led to their canonisation.
- Australian Landmarks Under Change: Through careful research, students explored iconic Australian landmarks, analysing the impact of both natural processes and human influence over time.
Stories of Migration: Bringing history to life, students stepped into the shoes of migrants who made Australia their home. They researched specific cultural groups and produced creative video presentations, sharing first-hand accounts of why these communities left their homelands and the stories behind their new beginnings in Australia.
We are immensely proud of the depth of research, historical empathy, and presentation skills our Seniors demonstrated.
Thank you to all the parents and families and Learning Spaces who came and supported their learning journey at the Expo—your encouragement makes all the difference!
Visual Art News
We come to the end of another term which has been filled with great interest, creativity, growth, determination and a lot of effort in visual arts. Students were multi-tasking as they spent time working through well thought-out and produced art pieces for both our upcoming Art Show and art lessons. Others also attended Art Club and even volunteered with preparations for the art show. Thank you and well done to all our young artists. Enjoy this well deserved break!
Just a gentle reminder to all parents/carers of current SFS students who are wanting to showcase their 2D or 3D art pieces for our Art show next term. Entries are due Thursday, 8th October. We look forward to viewing the wonderful artistic skills and talents of our SFS parents/ carers!
Christmas Art Competition
As the Christmas season is approaching, our students again are invited to
enter a festive competition. This year our Federal Member of Holt, Cassandra
Fernando MP, is welcoming our young artists to participate in the HOLT Annual
Christmas Card Competition. The theme is “Your Vision of Christmas”. Some
visual examples for designing the card may be illustrating a sunny setting in
Australia of Christmas by the beach or a snowy winter wonderland.
The winning artist will have the opportunity to have their design on Cassandra’s front cover of her official 2026 Christmas card and receive a $100 gift voucher from Officeworks.
Last year our school for the first time won this competition. What made this win even more memorable was that our school was the first catholic school to win this competition. If students are keen to enter this year and would like support with sharing their talents beyond our school I am able to help them. Providing a draft and their final designs to show me, particularly during our Art Club sessions would be preferable. This year this competition closes Friday 16th October, 2026.
With the holidays coming up, this would be a great art activity to work on and showcase the diverse perspectives of Christmas amongst our community’s young artists.

Clinic 3 - Debate Competition Across the Learning Spaces
Clinic 3 Writing students recently put their persuasive writing skills to the test as they completed their Persuasive Debates unit.
On Wednesday, 16 September, students were randomly assigned an affirmative or negative position on one of three topics connected to our Inquiry topic of Change:
- Australia should accept more immigrants each year.
- Every Australian child should learn the local Indigenous language at school as a second language.
- Immigration has changed Australia for the better.
With only 15 minutes to prepare, students developed their arguments and then headed to the hall to participate in a formal debate against the other learning spaces. Students performed exceptionally well, confidently presenting compelling arguments and using a range of persuasive techniques to captivate their audience. It was fantastic to see them think on their feet, listen to opposing viewpoints and speak with such confidence!
The teachers are extremely impressed with their performance today!!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES
Our junior students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities during Term 3 to demonstrate their kicking prowess in sports including kickball and soccer. In a gaming setting, the children were allowed to showcase their abilities and basic skills.
While some kids were able to assume leadership roles and help other children develop their talents, they were able to work together.
During Term 3, our Senior Students were taught the various techniques in Ultimate, Handball and Volleystars/Volleyball. The students participated in skill levels to acquire playing the game of the above sports.
Also taught strategies in order to acquire to play competitively against another team. The students enjoyed themselves and were able to learn how to play the games.
SENIOR SPORTS
Divisional Athletics
On Tuesday, September 15th, four students took part in the Divisional Athletics competition at Casey Athletics Track in Cranbourne. The weather was sunny and somewhat breezy, allowing the students to enjoy the day. All students have been training extremely hard during their break time, offering each other support during their practice sessions.
Our 800m and 1500 runner, Gisele, were eager to take part in the event. She showed outstanding commitment during her training.
We had a few new students unfamiliar with Divisional, nerves showed, yet we are incredibly proud of our students, Patrick, Gisele, Connor, and Declan. I was immensely proud of every one of them, stay tuned.
Declan participated in Triple Jump, it was his first competition at Divisional Athletics. He demonstrated dedication to training each week and the excitement was infectious to all. Congratulations on achieving 6th place.

JUNIOR EXTRA CURRICULAR EVENTS
JUNIOR ULTIMATE FRISBEE CLINICS
Our Ultimate Frisbee clinics are now finished and the Junior students and staff had a great time! Many staff have said to me “The best sport you have organised so far Giuliana!”
I would like to thank DS Sports for being so accommodating in the booking process, easily fitting in with what was best for our school and student learning. Josh and Lachie were great coaches, engaging the students and teaching them lots of new skills!
WHOLE SCHOOL EXTRA CURRICULAR EVENTS
TERM 4 SWIMMING
Thank you to all the parents that have offered to assist in the Junior Changerooms. Only parents that have attended a briefing with me will be able to assist in the Junior changerooms. If you did not attend the briefing I will be at school on Monday 5th October in the morning next term. You are welcome to come and see me in the office.
A reminder to parents that swimming begins the first week back in Term 4. Students will need to wear their bathers under their uniform and bring a bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs. Students will put their thongs on before leaving for swimming to make changing easier. They will then put their shoes back on once they return to school.
Swimming timetables have been uploaded onto the nForma permission form as an attachment. Please print it off and ensure you have it available at home.
- Monday – LS1 Juniors and Seniors, LS3 Juniors
- Tuesday – LS2 Juniors and Seniors, LS3 Seniors
Please ensure your child is prepared for their swimming lesson so our office staff do not need to use their valuable time ringing parents and asking them to bring swimming gear.
Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Race to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have attended the briefing session are able to assist in the junior change rooms.
A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. If there is a medical reason your child cannot attend a session, they will then remain at school in another Learning Space.
HOLIDAY EXTRA CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITY
A great opportunity for our girls over the school holidays. On Thursday 1st of October the Dandenong District Cricket Association and Cricket Victoria are holding a girls’ ‘Come and Try Day’ event. This is a free event and I encourage any girls who might be interested to attend and give cricket a try.
Parents you will need to register your daughter using the QR code on the flyer.
I hope all students have a restful and fun holiday ready to come back to school for a busy Term 4 with lots of extra-curricular opportunities.

FOOTY FUN DAY
Friday September 18th
What a great day we had today for Footy Fun Day! It was fantastic to see all the students and teachers in their footy sports tops or colours.
SENIORS
Seniors were involved in House Footy Matches from 8.50 - 10.15. Grade 3/4 Houses played first, then Grade 5/6 Houses played. There was a great atmosphere!!! We would like to congratulate Grade 5/6 Patrick House who won their competition and also Grade 3/4 MacKillop House for winning their competition! Both levels will be presented with their perpetual trophy that will have their House engraved on it for 2026 and be kept in our trophy cabinet ready for next year’s competition.
STAFF/PARENTS VS GRADE 6 AFL MATCH
Following the Senior House Competitions, the whole school went out to the football oval to cheer and support the Grade 6s and staff/parents in their AFL match. I am sure the cheering could be heard from down the street.
We would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the staff and parents in their win!!
Well done to both sides for their sportsmanship and humour during the match.
JUNIORS
Juniors had a great time involved in footy rotational activities from 11.35 – 12.45. Students rotated around 7 activities focussed on developing their AFL skills. We would like to thank the Grade 6 students who volunteered to assist running the Junior rotational activities. They demonstrated great leadership skills and helped the Juniors to have a fantastic time! These students have also received points for their House for the Community Spirit they have demonstrated by assisting the Juniors with their rotations.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students who participated with enthusiasm and excitement. We would also like to thank all the staff for their support and enthusiasm. Days like this wouldn’t happen without the support of our great staff. And our fantastic P&F who provided our fun lunch to add to the celebrations of the day!
We wish everybody a safe and restful holiday and look forward to next term with new sporting opportunities for the students.
