Stage 2

What a fantastic and busy start we have had to Term 2! Classes have enjoyed visits to Thalgarrah, athletics sessions with Mr Jay Stone, and cross country events. We are also fully engaged and making great progress in our classroom learning.

English

In our Stage 2 English unit, Iceberg, students will dive into the text's themes using a range of reading, writing, and discussion activities. Throughout the unit, students will analyse texts, explore hidden meanings, and learn how to express their ideas effectively. They will focus on creating informative writing pieces, building their skills in researching topics and organising information clearly.

This unit is closely connected to our history unit, where students are also learning to write informative texts. By linking English and history, students will see how the skills they develop in one subject can strengthen their understanding and performance in another. This approach encourages students to become thoughtful, confident communicators, and helps them share what they have learned about the world in an engaging way.

Mathematics

In mathematics, students will explore the concept of fractions through engaging, hands-on activities and practical examples. They will learn to identify and represent fractions as parts of a whole, as well as compare and order fractions with the same denominators. Students will use visual models, such as fraction walls and number lines, to develop their understanding and will solve real-life problems involving simple fractions. Throughout the unit, students have the opportunity to build their confidence in recognising, using, and communicating about fractions in everyday contexts.
