A message from Stage 1
Welcome to Term 2! It has been a busy start to Term 2, with our K–2 Cross Country successfully completed and each class scheduled to visit Thalgarrah over the coming weeks.
Our Stage 1 elective choir will also be performing at the Eisteddfod on Wednesday, 20 May and we are looking forward to an author visit in Week 6. Permission notes for these events have been sent out via School Bytes.
On Thursday of Week 5, the new SRC representatives for each Stage 1 class will be inducted at an assembly commencing at 12:30pm. Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend.
We are learning to write an informative text.
In Mathematics over the past fortnight, most Stage 1 groups have been focusing on measurement. Students have been exploring length, area, capacity and mass through hands-on activities, using informal units to compare and order objects. They are developing their understanding of how to describe and measure everyday items, as well as beginning to use appropriate mathematical language. It has been great to see students engaging in practical tasks and sharing their thinking as they build confidence in applying measurement skills to real-world situations.
In Term 2, our HSIE unit focuses on ancient history.
We are learning to identify and locate major ancient civilisations and landmarks.
I can identify the four ancient civilisations
I can locate ancient China, Egypt, Greece and Rome on a world map
I can locate China and the Great Wall on a map or globe
I can describe key features of the Great Wall of China.
This term's science unit teaches students to use the design process to break projects into manageable steps. Students apply the design process steps to create or improve a kitchen product that meets user needs. Students investigate materials, food and fibres used in the kitchen and determine the best use for each material in a product. They also learn how innovative products and systems, such as digital kitchen appliances, influence the use of food and fibre.
This term, Stage 1 are focusing on how we can include others and build respectful relationships. This unit provides opportunities for students to learn to value diversity and foster connection with others.
