Kingswood Primary School Receives Community Grant for 50th Anniversary Legacy Mural

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our school community — Kingswood Primary School has successfully received funding through the Dingley Bendigo Bank Community Grants Program to support the creation of our 50th Anniversary Legacy Mural.

This special project was developed through a partnership between our student leaders, School Council, staff and community partner, the Rotary Club of Noble Park - Dingley.

The mural project was originally proposed by our 2026 School Captains and Vice Captains, who were inspired after helping uncover a historic time capsule last year. Reflecting on the importance of preserving our school’s story, the students began exploring ways to create a lasting legacy that celebrates both Kingswood’s rich history and the vibrant multicultural community we are today.

Our School Council President, Arosh Fernando, strongly supported the project, recognising the importance of creating something permanent that reflects the values of curiosity, belonging, diversity and community connection that are central to Kingswood Primary School.

The large-scale mural will be created on a prominent wall beside our basketball courts and will become a lasting symbol of our school community for future generations. The project will involve students, families, staff and the selected artist working together through a co-design process to ensure the artwork genuinely reflects the voices and stories of our community.

Over recent weeks, our student leaders have researched several talented local artists and explored a range of artistic styles and concepts. The next stage of the process will involve students helping to select the artist who will work with our community to bring the mural to life.

As Victoria’s only government 'Cultures of Thinking' school working in partnership with Harvard University’s Project Zero, Kingswood Primary School continues to place student voice, curiosity and deep thinking at the centre of learning. This mural project is another wonderful example of students taking meaningful action to shape the future of their school.

We would like to sincerely thank the Dingley Bendigo Bank Community Grants Program for believing in our vision and supporting this important community project. We also extend our gratitude to our School Council, student leaders, staff, families and community partner for their ongoing support and enthusiasm.

We look forward to sharing updates with the community as the project progresses and cannot wait to see this exciting legacy project come to life during our 50th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

Student Eyecare Participation

During the end of Term 1 and the beginning of Term 2 we had the student eye care program visiting Kingswood. The optometrist saw 224 students, representative of a relatively even distribution across all year levels (see participation graph below). 12% of students seen were discovered to require glasses or a prescription update. Every student received a report and if glasses were required, the prescription was written on the report. The team reported that our senior students were the most vulnerable to eye issues that go undetected.
