Alumni News

On Wednesday the 6th August, we hosted alumni, Donna Broadbent, for a resilience workshop with our Middle Years and Senior students. The former BSC School Captain shared her life and career experience with students, before giving them the opportunity to reflect on their own journey and a time they have shown resilience when faced with adversity.

After having the group think back to how they overcame a particular circumstance, Donna, who has worked in the field of youth mental health for many years, encouraged students to consider what advice they would offer to someone else in the same situation.

This experience aimed to highlight not only the need for resilience, but also that many of us are quite resilient even though we may not realise it.

You never know where life is going to take you or the struggles you may face along the way. We all know that the best laid plans can often disappear into the ether when life throws a curve ball. Being resilient demonstrates the ability to adapt and refocus despite challenging circumstances.

Donna has not only learnt how to adapt and progress through incredibly stressful, life altering situations, she has achieved this with a humility that defies the dire situation with which she was faced. Thank you, Donna, for sharing your extremely empowering story with us and for working alongside our students to help them recognise the resilience they already possess. You truly are an inspiration!
