Focus on Learning

Stage 2 Teacher: Mrs Sumandana

Tennis

Our Stage 2 students started with tennis program! The energy was high and the focus was even higher as we traded the classroom for the baseline. The first session was a "smash" hit, with the "two torches" technique helping everyone master their bat contact. It was an incredibly engaging start, and it was wonderful to see the students embrace the challenge with such enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Beyond the fun, we’ve jumped straight into the technical foundations of the game. Students are currentlyfocusing on mastering the Eastern forehand grip and learning the importance of side-on body positioning for effective groundstrokes. Through hand-eye coordination drills and drop-feeding, they are already showing great progress in making consistent contact with the ball. We look forward to seeing these skills develop further as we move into gentle rallying in the coming weeks!

We are Authors!

In class, we are busy writing our very own storybooks. Every good story needs three things: an Orientation (the start), a Complication (the problem), and a Resolution (how the problem is fixed). We are having so much fun coming up with exciting adventures for our characters!

To make our stories even better, we are using describing words. Instead of just saying what happens, we are trying to paint a picture with our words so the reader can see, hear, and feel what is going on in the story. Keep up the great writing, Stage 2!

We have been diving deep into the world of Place Value. We are learning how to read and understand big numbers with 3 and 4 digits! By looking at the Thousands, Hundreds, Tens, and Ones columns, we can see exactly how much a number is worth. It is like being a number detective!

We are also practicing how to round numbers to the nearest hundred. We’ve learned that if a number is "50 or more," we round up to the next hundred, and if it’s less, we stay at the current hundred. Plus, we are becoming experts at comparing numbers to see which is greater than or less than others. Great job using your "maths brains" this week, Stage 2!
