Endeavour House News

We've had another wonderful term in Endeavour House, and it has been incredibly pleasing to see the progress our students are making socially, emotionally, and academically. As the term draws to a close, there is a real sense of excitement around the House as students look forward to a well-earned spring holiday break. It has been fantastic to see students finish the term in such a positive manner and with genuine enthusiasm.

We have the privilege of caring for students and quietly watching them grow and develop over the weeks. Recently, a student showed me a tiny honeyeater's nest she had discovered just outside her bedroom window, nestled in a wild daisy bush of all places. Inside were three delicate eggs, and she had taken a special interest in watching over them each day. As we all become a little weary toward the end of term, the little bird's nest reminded me that it's often these simple moments that remind us to slow down and pay attention. I hope that during the break you can find plenty of opportunities to do just that: enjoy the signs of spring, appreciate life's quieter moments, and return refreshed for our final term of the year.

A special thank you goes to our Junior GAP Assistants, Kim Farquhar and Ted Lloyd, who have successfully completed their first term in boarding. Both have done an outstanding job and have quickly become much-loved members of our boarding community and the wider Great Southern Grammar family. Their energy, care, and willingness to get involved have made a significant contribution to the lives of our students.

GSG Boarding will also have a presence in Esperance during the holidays, hosting a coffee morning at the Esperance Jetty precinct on Tuesday 29 September from 10.00am to 12.00pm. This will provide a wonderful opportunity for our GAP Assistants and other boarding staff to visit this beautiful part of the south coast, connect with Esperance and Goldfields families, and link up with other GAP Assistants currently living and working in Esperance at local schools.

The initiative aims to offer a meaningful professional and cultural experience while further strengthening Great Southern Grammar's connection with the Esperance community. I’d like to thank Mr Jordan Owenell and Mr Mathew Irving for supporting this opportunity and promise to represent GSG with pride.

To all of our farming families heading into another harvest season, we wish you a safe, successful, and bountiful crop. At this time of year especially, our families are very much in our thoughts as we recognise the long hours, dedication, and hard work required to bring in the harvest.

Finally, thank you to the Endeavour House staff for their outstanding work and commitment throughout the term:

  • Amber Freeman, Supervisor and Day Duties Assistant
  • Conny Stone, Supervisor and Day Duties Assistant
  • Grace Larham, On-site Supervisor
  • Lachie Steytler, On-site Supervisor and On-call Staff Member
  • Kyle Kovacs, On-site Supervisor and Recreation Officer
  • Jasmin Kennedy, Weekend Supervisor
  • Kim Farquhar, On-site GAP Assistant
  • Ted Lloyd, On-site GAP Assistant

Thank you for helping create such a positive, supportive, and caring environment for our students.

I'll sign off with "Go Freo!" one last time. The Year Eight boys are already trying to negotiate extra tech-time for our first weekend back if the Dockers can tame the Lions at the MCG. Let's see how we go! 💜
