Administration News

Hi everyone
Since starting here back in February, I can honestly say that Term Three has been the busiest one yet. We've had so many amazing, fun and rewarding events on - most notably (in my personal opinion), the Kingfisher Fair. That was a blast!
To everyone and anyone who pitched in, rolled up their sleeves and helped to make the day what it was: a huge, special thank you to you all... and I can't not mention those of you who assisted me in running the BBQ stand; that was a massive team effort! We ended up being so busy at the stand that I wasn't able to get around to the other sites at the Fair. I was, however, lucky enough to witness all the bands that played on the stage just in front of where we were - those were some seriously talented, seriously amazing performances. Well done.
On a much more laid-back and relaxed vibe, we travelled out to Denmark last month for our Sundowner at Boston Brewery as part of GSG's Regional Roadshow Tours. I absolutely love getting out and about in the region and meeting those of you who come along. Sometimes on my way out to these things, I'll be wondering "what am I going to talk about?", "what can I contribute?" - but every time, as soon as I'm there and you all start arriving, the conversations flow with an ease from anything to everything! We cover everything from footy (go Dockers!), to what's happening at GSG, to what's happening in the region; and best of all, I get to hear so many stories from your lives - who you are, where you're from, and what brings you joy!
Next month, the GSG team will be heading over to Esperance for the Esperance Show, and to host the next Sundowner at Lucky Bay Brewing that Friday night, 16 October from 5.00pm. I highly encourage you to go along, enjoy some free food and drinks, and have the opportunity to catch up with our Principal, Mr Mathew Irving (and our other amazing team members of course).
If you can't make it out to Esperance, the team will also be stopping in at Bremer Bay on Sunday 18 October. Come down to Bremer Bay Brewing Co. from 3.00pm.
For those of you in the Kojonup region, next month I'll be attending the Kojonup Show on Saturday 17 October. Please do drop in and say hello! I hope to see you there.
...and lastly, C'MON FREO!! Let's go get WA a win! 💜⚓

Host Requirements and Conditions of Leave
To add a new leave host, please email boarding@gsg.wa.edu.au with the host's full name, mobile number, and relationship to the student (e.g., grandparent, family friend, coach).
- Local Contact: A local / Albany contact (family member or friend) should be nominated at the time of enrolment for emergency situations (e.g. illness).
- Approved Hosts: Families must only nominate adult hosts (18+) for their child. Boarders then select from this list when entering leave in REACH. Please discuss leave plans with your child to ensure you are comfortable with any request submitted.
- Host Changes: Only a parent or guardian can request changes to a boarder’s host list. Requests must be submitted in writing to boarding@gsg.wa.edu.au or the Head of Boarding House (email/text).
- Leave Duration: Standard overnight weekend leave runs from 3.30pm Friday to 5.30pm Sunday. We ask that boarders return by 5.30pm wherever possible.
- Late Returns: If a student returns late, the host must contact the Boarding Supervisor before the expected return time to explain the reason and provide a new ETA. Repeated unexplained late returns may result in follow‑up from the boarding staff.
- Changes to Leave: Students are not allowed to contact the bus drivers directly and make ‘on-the-go' changes to their approved leave. Students or families must discuss changes with the Supervisor on duty at their boarding house.
