PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Order of Australia Primary School Citizenship Awards ceremony to see 8 Geelong shortlisted finalists, including Millie, Shaayan and Harry, present what they think Citizenship means, to an audience consisting of parents, friends, fellow students, and school staff, along with distinguished guests and representatives.

This award is to acknowledge and hear from students in Geelong who participate in their community, demonstrating what it means to be a good citizen and how to actively contribute.

It is with great pleasure that I acknowledge and congratulate Harry, Shaayan and Millie for being awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd for this award across Geelong.

This is an amazing achievement and acknowledgment of these three students.  They were unbelievable to listen to, and I was very proud, also acknowledging the students from other schools across Geelong that presented in this final.

One final thing that Emcee, Barbara said in her closing….

YOU DO NOT NEED A SUPERPOWER TO BE A HERO.  YOU DON’T NEED A MEDAL TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, YOU JUST NEED A BIG HEART, A BIT OF COURAGE AND THE WILLINGNESS TO HELP OTHERS, EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING.

Next week our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation. Survey log in information will be circulated via Compass on Monday August 31st.

Next Wednesday September 2nd, classrooms will be open from 2:40pm until 3:30pm. Some year levels will be conducting their Expo for the term; other classes will run as per normal and visitors are welcome to participate.

Students and staff are looking forward to the big BOOK WEEK PARADE this Friday at 9:15am.  I am disappointed to be missing this as I am at a conference; however cannot wait to see the photos of everyone's outfits!

Kind regards,

Meg
