TERM 4, Week 2

The students have come back to school eager and ready for learning. It was so wonderful to see them all back to school after the holidays.

In Literacy, students have been learning about digraphs, two letters that work together to make one sound. We have been exploring the digraphs ll, zz, ss, ff, ck and sh through fun and engaging games that help students recognise, identify and hear these sounds (phonemes) in words. Students have also been developing their handwriting skills in our new dotted-thirds books. Using picture prompts, they have been practising writing their own sentences independently and learning how to edit their writing to improve their word choices and check that punctuation is used correctly. We are so proud of their growing confidence and independence as writers!

In Maths, students have been exploring different ways to represent two-digit numbers. They have been using a range of hands-on materials, including tens frames, bundles of ten and MAB blocks, to show how numbers can be broken into tens and ones. These practical activities are helping students develop their understanding of place value and recognise that the same number can be represented in a variety of ways.

The students are excited for Mission Day next Friday. Please see the Seesaw post regarding what families can do to support the day.
