It’s hard to believe that we are already in our final term for 2026! There have already been so many memorable occasions throughout the year, and this term will continue with more camps, performances, sporting events and graduations – make sure you check Compass and Facebook for all the exciting things that will be happening!
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
As part of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach at Concord School, we are explicitly teaching students how to respond to problems using our S.T.A.R. Problem Solving Action Plan.
This four-step process helps students develop the skills and confidence to manage challenging situations safely and positively.
Learning to solve problems is an important life skill. The S.T.A.R. plan provides students with a clear and consistent process they can use when faced with difficulties, disagreements or unexpected challenges. It supports students to regulate their emotions, consider their choices, develop independence and make safe decisions. Over time, practising these skills can help students build confidence, strengthen relationships and become more successful in their learning and play.
Families play an important role in helping students use these skills beyond the classroom. You can support your child by practising the S.T.A.R. steps during everyday situations, such as sharing toys, taking turns, managing frustration or resolving disagreements with siblings.
Here are some simple ways to help:
- Talk through everyday problems: Ask your child what happened and encourage them to think about possible solutions.
- Model staying calm: Show your child how taking a deep breath, pausing or stepping away can help when emotions feel big.
- Ask guiding questions: Try asking, “What could you do to solve this problem?”, “Who could help you?” or “Is that a safe choice?”
- Practise when things are calm: Use pretend scenarios, stories or games to rehearse the four steps before a problem occurs.
- Celebrate effort: Recognise when your child pauses, considers their options, asks for help or makes a safe choice.
By using the same language at home and school, we can work together to help our students become confident, capable problem solvers.
Stop, Think, Act and Reflect — our plan to make all our students Supertars!⭐
World Teachers Day
Concord School will celebrate teachers on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 30th October.
We want to Shine a Light on our teachers who inspire, support, and empower our children and young people every single day.
From lightbulb moments to helping someone find their way, our teachers make a difference in ways big and small.
All Staff and Students are encouraged to wear brightly coloured clothing, hats, headbands, jewellery etc. Spooky themed items (not entire costumes) are welcomed!
