Boorowa Touch Netball Carnival
What a day! This year’s Boorowa Touch Football and Netball Carnival welcomed 47 schools, with 257 touch teams playing 489 games across 27 fields and 148 netball teams playing 380 games across 22 courts. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, and the grounds were buzzing with activity, impressive skills and great sportsmanship.
Our high school students and staff were outstanding, keeping the day running smoothly and helping wherever they were needed. Around the debrief table later that afternoon, the question was raised: could this have been our best carnival ever? It was certainly right up there!
Both schools’ P&Cs had a huge day feeding the crowds. A few items proved so popular that volunteers had to make a quick dash to IGA to restock after selling out! Thank you to every teacher, high school student, parent and friend who lent a hand, whether you turned snags, handed out Zooper Doopers, served food, supervised teams or helped set up and pack away. Every contribution helped make the day a success.
A special thank you to Boorowa Rotary for helping park cars, our amazing baristas for their big shift on the coffee grinder, and Ryan and Tom S for keeping the buses parked and organised.
We are also very grateful to Bendigo Bank for sponsoring first aid and the extra portable toilets, and to Bango and Squadron wind farms for sponsoring traffic management. Their generous support helped us keep everyone safe, comfortable and moving smoothly throughout the day.
Thank you also to St Joseph’s for the fantastic teamwork involved in organising such a large event. The planning and hard work are well worth it when we see the benefits flowing back to our children through wonderful resources and more affordable excursions.
To all the visiting schools, teachers and students, thank you for bringing your enthusiasm, sportsmanship and fantastic touch football and netball skills to Boorowa. A huge community effort and a day to be proud of!

Boorowa Show Team Takes on the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza
Ten enthusiastic members of the Boorowa Central School Show Team headed north to Scone from 22–25 October to compete in the 2026 Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza, one of Australia's largest youth cattle competitions.
This year's event attracted an impressive 450 steers and heifers, with more than 800 students competing in the paraders and junior judging competitions. With competitors travelling from across the country, the event provided our students with an excellent opportunity to showcase their cattle, develop their skills and mix with other young people who share their passion for agriculture.
The team travelled with three head of cattle: Wattle, a Limousin heifer; Nigel, a Limousin steer; and Grug, a Simmental steer - exhibited in partnership with Belview Simmentals and Fleckviehs, whom we sincerely thank for their generosity. After arriving in Scone, the students quickly got to work setting up the cattle stalls and preparing for the busy days ahead.
Friday provided plenty of opportunities for learning, with students attending a range of educational seminars covering important aspects of the beef industry, including meat quality and cattle reproduction. These sessions gave students valuable insights into the science and management practices involved in producing high-quality beef cattle.
Friday evening also saw Wattle enter the School Steer Shootout, an entertaining competition that added plenty of excitement to the event. Unfortunately, Wattle's campaign came to an early end, being eliminated in the first round, but it was a great experience for the students involved.
Throughout the competition, students were responsible for the daily care, feeding, washing and presentation of their cattle. With early starts and plenty of work to be done, there was certainly no shortage of opportunities for everyone to contribute.
In the cattle judging, Wattle impressed the judges to finish third in her class, a pleasing result in such a large and competitive field. Nigel and Grug were also presented well by the team, reflecting the time and effort students had put into preparing their animals in the lead-up to the show.
The students also had the opportunity to put their own skills to the test, with all ten competing in the junior judging competition. This required students to assess cattle, compare their qualities and demonstrate their understanding of what makes a good beef animal. The paraders competition provided another opportunity to showcase their cattle-handling abilities, with Ava achieving an excellent second place in her heat, while Jazzy also performed well, finishing fifth in her heat. With such a large number of young competitors, these were pleasing achievements against a very competitive field.
Beyond the competition ring, the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza offered students opportunities to learn more about the beef industry, develop their practical skills and make new friendships. The event is always a valuable experience for our students, combining education, teamwork and competition in an environment that celebrates the next generation of the agricultural industry.
While ribbons are always a welcome reward, the greatest achievements of these trips are often found outside the show ring. The responsibility of caring for livestock, the confidence gained through competition and the friendships formed along the way are experiences that students will carry with them well beyond their school years.
We extend our appreciation to the families, sponsors and supporters who help make these opportunities possible. We also thank the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza committee and volunteers for organising another outstanding event.
Congratulations to all ten students on their efforts throughout the competition. They represented Boorowa Central School with enthusiasm and should be proud of their achievements.
Multi-Sports Day
On Tuesday some of the students from the Hub together with Mrs Shore and Fee Gorham attended the Multi-Sports Day at the Queanbeyan PCYC.
The students were given the opportunity to try 7 different sports including hockey, golf, AFL, pickleball, boccia, rugby union and basketball, including wheelchair basketball. We were in a group with some students from Yass High School. Thanks to the School Sports Unit who organise this day. A fun day was had by all!
Year 7 Technology Mandatory
Year 7 students have completed their final assessment for the Food Technology unit — designing and creating their own unique flavoured muffins. Students researched different flavour combinations, developed their ideas, created their own recipes and prepared a workflow plan.
The class worked seamlessly together on the practical day, demonstrating excellent teamwork, organisation and kitchen skills to produce an impressive array of delicious and creative muffins. It was fantastic to see their ideas come to life, and the results were certainly a tasty way to finish the unit.
Stage 5 Textiles Technology
Stage 5 Textiles students have successfully completed the first part of Assessment Task 2. Their work-in-progress mood boards were proudly displayed during our School Showcase Night and have now been completed.
Students have applied their newly developed design, drawing and textile sampling skills to create individual and visually engaging mood boards that reflect their creative ideas and design direction.
The quality, creativity and attention to detail in these finished pieces is outstanding. Well done, Stage 5 Textiles!
