BCS BOOST – Building Healthy Minds and Healthy Bodies
We are excited to have launched BCS BOOST, our new K–6 morning wellbeing program at Boorowa Central School. This initiative has been developed in response to our student wellbeing data and aligns closely with our whole-school implementation of The Resilience Project.
The Resilience Project focuses on developing positive mental health through Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy. BCS BOOST provides students with an opportunity to put these important skills into practice each morning, while also developing their physical fitness, coordination and confidence.
Each morning, students join mixed K–6 groups and participate in 10–12 minutes of carefully planned and guided activities. These include active mindfulness, mindful movement, fitness challenges and fundamental movement skills such as catching, throwing, kicking, balancing and skipping.
An important part of BCS BOOST is the opportunity for students to connect with peers from different year levels, encouraging positive relationships, teamwork and a sense of belonging across our primary school.
One of the key goals of BCS BOOST is to support how students transition into their classrooms each morning. Following their activities, students return calmly to morning muster before heading into class, ready to begin their learning. By providing opportunities to move their bodies, practise regulation strategies and connect with others, we aim to help students return to their classrooms feeling settled, focused and ready to engage in the day ahead.
BCS BOOST is more than just a morning movement break. It is a purposeful approach to supporting student wellbeing, building healthy habits and explicitly teaching strategies that students can use both inside and outside the classroom.
We look forward to seeing our students continue to develop healthy minds, healthy bodies and positive connections through BCS BOOST.
BCS BOOST – Boost your body. Boost your mind. Boost your day!
K–6 Behaviour Bump It Up Wall
Since its introduction in Term 3, our K–6 Behaviour Bump It Up Wall has had a positive impact on supporting student behaviour and reinforcing our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Participation.
The Bump It Up Wall is a behaviour continuum that recognises positive choices and provides clear steps to support students in making positive decisions. Students are encouraged to uphold high expectations, be positive role models and go above and beyond, while also being supported to reflect, reset and get back on track when needed.
This approach has encouraged students to take pride in their positive choices, celebrate their achievements and develop a greater understanding of how their actions contribute to a happy, respectful and supportive school community.
Infants
Welcome back to Term 4 to all our students and their families! This term is always a fun and very busy term with all the end of year activities, holidays and Christmas. To help prevent missing out on anything, please keep a close eye out for information on Compass and in the Newsletter regularly.
Our Kindergarten Transition program has kicked off already with students and their families joining us for an Orientation Day on Friday 16 October. We are very excited to be welcoming them back for their first real ‘taste’ of ‘big school’ over the next few Fridays. Our Year 5 students are looking forward to finding out who their ‘Buddy’ will be, and our Kindergarten students are excited to be not the youngest at school anymore. The first Kindy-start morning is this Friday, 30 October.
Our Infants Excursion to Canberra to see ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ is coming up on Monday 9 November. This is a fabulous opportunity to see a theatrical production of an all-time favourite story, and we strongly encourage all students to attend. Please remember to check ‘Events’ on Compass to find out more information and complete the permission note if you haven’t already. Please contact the school if you have any questions.
Term 4 is when our ‘No Hat, Play in the Shade’ mantra comes back into play. Please remember to send a named school bucket hat to school each day. Thank you.
Last Friday when just about the whole town was having fun at the Touch Netball Carnival, there were a few of us living our best school lives back at school. Kindergarten and Year 1 were ‘Kings and Queens’ of the school and had the best day making the most of having the school to themselves! A highlight was a special treasure hunt organised by Mrs Riles, with the Kings and Queens solving riddles to find the hidden treasure – great fun sharing a cool treat at the end of the day!

Term 4 is really all about continuing to develop and consolidate our reading and writing skills, building our number capacity and developing our independence in learning tasks in preparation for the next stage of learning. Students are working daily on focusing for longer periods, developing strategies to help problem solve themselves and staying on task without being distracted by others. There is still so much to learn over the next 7 weeks of term, so being focused and ready to learn is a key skill.
We have a big focus on writing during Term 4, with students being encouraged to challenge themselves to write more than 1 or 2 sentences. They are also building their ability to check their work and make sure it can be read by someone else – they are quickly learning the importance of taking the time to write neat letters and remember finger spaces.
Our Mathematics focus has been on measurement and we have used our body, including our arm span to measure things longer and shorter than our own arm span and explored the mass of different grocery items. Many students were surprised at how heavy a bag of groceries can be! Over the next fortnight we will be looking at finding halves, making equal shares and learning to estimate.
