Student Learning Term 2

Year 5/6 in Term 2

It has been another busy and exciting few weeks in Year 5/6!

In Integrated Studies this term, students have been exploring significant events in Australian history, including Federation, the ANZACs and life in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Students are currently creating presentations on an important moment in Australia's history, which they will share with their classmates at the end of the term. A highlight of the unit was our recent excursion to the Melbourne Museum, where students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Australia's past through engaging exhibits and hands-on learning experiences.

In Reading, students have begun a class novel study of Shifters by local author and staff member Nicole Kelly. Through the novel, students are developing their reading comprehension strategies, including predicting, questioning, visualising and making connections. Students have also been linking themes and ideas from the novel to their learning in Japanese, helping them make meaningful connections across curriculum areas.

We are also well underway with our swimming program. Students have shown great enthusiasm and commitment as they develop their swimming skills, water confidence, and understanding of water safety. It has been wonderful to see students encouraging one another and demonstrating resilience as they challenge themselves in the pool.

We look forward to sharing more of our learning and achievements as the term draws to a close!
