Milo's Birthday Party
It was wonderful to be able to celebrate Milo's Birthday with our Prep students on Wednesday 29 July and recognise their achievements in phonological awareness at our assembly on Monday 3 August.
For families who may be unfamiliar with the program, Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) is an evidence-based approach to teaching reading and writing in the early years. It helps children develop the essential skills they need to become confident readers and writers through explicit and engaging lessons. Students learn about letter sounds (phonics), letters, vocabulary, oral language, reading comprehension and writing in a structured and sequential way.
One of the unique features of the program is its collection of memorable characters that help to bring the learning to life. Milo Monkey (who represents the letter M) is one of these much-loved characters. As children learn new sounds and letters, they connect them with stories, songs, actions, and characters, helping them remember and apply their learning more effectively. Milo's Birthday Party provided students with an opportunity to revisit and celebrate learning all of their letters and sounds in a meaningful and fun way.
Thank you to Princess Galaraga and Aarti Hooda for their work preparing for Milo’s Birthday. The Preps had a fantastic time and it was lovely to see how happy they were to receive their special Phonics certificate at assembly. Apparently all 26 characters from our Milo the Monkey’s Birthday book are included on the certificate that Mrs Princess created to celebrate this milestone for the Preps. A bit like a Where’s Wally!
Industrial Action
After sustained industrial action led by members of the Australian Education Union (AEU), the campaign relating to the Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA) has now concluded. The agreement relates to the wages and working conditions for all school staff.
Throughout this process, AEU members across Victoria advocated strongly for improvements to working conditions, workload reduction measures, support for attracting and retaining high-quality educators in government schools and ensuring schools are fully funded to deliver quality educational outcomes.
Over coming months, we will receive further advice around the implementation of these new working arrangements.
We would like to thank families for their patience and support; particularly during days of stop work action.
Grade 5/6 Big Day Out
Excitement is building for our upcoming Year 5/6 Big Day Out on Wednesday!
This special event is a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate, connect with their peers, and enjoy a range of fun and engaging activities together.
As part of the day, students will travel to BOUNCE to enjoy an action-packed session before returning to school for an evening of games, activities, and dinner with their classmates. The event promises to be a fantastic experience and a memorable highlight of the year for our senior students.
A reminder to families that students do not need to attend school at the normal start time on Wednesday. Students should arrive at school later in the day as outlined in the information sent home to families.
We are looking forward to seeing our Year 5 and 6 students enjoy this exciting event and would like to thank families for their support in making the day possible.
2027 DOXA Camp for Year 5\6 students
It was wonderful to see so many families attend our recent 2027 Year 5/6 Camp Information Session. Over recent years we have not been able to run a camp due to low interest, however, the strong turnout reflected the excitement and enthusiasm shared by students and families as we begin planning for the return of this special learning experience.
School camps provide students with valuable opportunities to develop independence, resilience, teamwork and confidence while creating lasting memories with their school peers.
During the information session, families were able to learn more about the camp program, accommodation, activities, supervision arrangements, and the many benefits students gain from participating.
Expression of Interest forms seeking a deposit have now been sent home with students. To secure your child's place on camp, we ask that families return these forms to the school as soon as possible, along with the required deposit.
As camp planning depends on confirmed numbers, return of paperwork will assist us in finalising bookings and ensuring this exciting opportunity can be enjoyed by as many students as possible.

Will you be with us in 2027?
As we begin planning for the 2027 school year, we are asking Prep - Year 5 families to let us know if their child will be attending a different school next year.
Accurate enrolment information is extremely important as we commence our workforce planning, class structures, and resource allocation for 2027. Knowing our expected student numbers helps us make informed decisions about staffing, classes and the additional programs we can offer to support student learning and wellbeing.
If your family is planning to relocate, enrol your child at another school, or if you are aware that your child will not be returning to Lalor East Primary School in 2027, please contact the school as soon as possible.
We understand that plans can change, however, any information you are able to provide at this stage will greatly assist us in preparing for another successful school year.
Professional Practice Day
A reminder to families that THURSDAY 9 SEPTEMBER is a Professional Practice Day for school staff. Students do not attend school on this day.
