Dear families and friends of MPW
Welcome back to Term 3. We are again looking forward to another exciting, fun term full of learning and activities. This term we have several exciting learning activities and celebrations planned, including: Book Week Dress Up Day on Monday 24th August, the MPW Show Day later in the term, the Year 2 Sleepover scheduled for the end of term, and many exciting incursions and excursions being planned.
Congratulations to our Foundation students for reaching their 100 days of school this Friday 24th July. They will be celebrating this milestone with a theme of ‘100 days Brighter’, Foundation students are encouraged to dress up along this theme, please refer to the email from the Foundation team for details. Students will also be participating in some fun activities to recognise their first 100 days of school.
Just a heads up that Anna, Assistant Principal, will be on placement for her master’s course over the next three weeks and won’t be onsite at MPW. Should you need to reach her, she will still be on emails or alternatively you can reach out to myself.
NAPLAN Results
Last week NAPLAN results were released to schools and our individual students’ reports were sent home to our Year 3 and 5 families.
Students’ NAPLAN reports will continue to provide an indication of their skill levels against national averages. The results provide valuable information to teachers about how we can continue to support your child this year. Each set of NAPLAN results is an important milestone but it’s also important to remember that it is a snapshot of learning on the day under test conditions. NAPLAN was completed in Term 1 and students will have made growth in learning since then.
Our School Improvement Team (SIT) and year level teams will be looking at the overall school results and to identify areas of strength and improvement for the school. With the data that we have been provided so far, our results again are looking promising with a large majority of students performing in the Strong and Exceeding categories. Our Year 3 Writing and Year 5 Reading and Numeracy results were particularly strong this year. Well done!
I am hoping to be able to provide a summary of results to the community once the full results are released, including the State and National data in the coming weeks.
Riding Bikes in the School Grounds
We would like to remind our school community about some of the expectations for the use of the school grounds after hours, particularly in relation to the shared use of the space with Camp Australia’s service.
Camp Australia has recently raised concerns regarding the riding of bikes through these areas after school. As these spaces are also used by Camp Australia for their Before and After School Care programs, it is essential that we support a safe and respectful environment for the children in their care.
Whilst we welcome community use of these facilities after school hours, we ask that you remind your children that if they are coming onsite, that bikes should not be ridden within the school grounds after school.
Camp Australia staff may approach individuals using the facilities to remind them of these expectations. In cases of non-compliance, individuals may be asked to leave the grounds.
Thank you for your understanding to ensure the school grounds remain a safe and positive environment for everyone after school hours.
MPW Trivia Night
Our Term 3 fundraising event is the MPW Trivia Night on Saturday 8th August. This is always an enjoyable and fun night, so don’t forget to organise your tickets/table. We are looking for donations to support our silent auction, please contact Sandra if you are able to assist.
The theme this year is ‘all things movies’, so come dressed up as something relating to your favourite movie, movie character, Hollywood or in general the film industry. Consider individual or group costumes to make the night more fun!

Possible Stop Work Action on Thursday 23rd July
You may have heard that there is possible stop work action on Thursday 23rd July (this week) as the AEU continues to negotiate a new agreement for school staff. I am hoping to confirm details of the planned stop work later today with families, including if the stop work is going ahead and if so, the impact it will have here at MPW. This will be sent to families directly through Compass as soon as they are confirmed.
Upcoming Curriculum Day
A reminder that next Friday, 31st July is our next Curriculum Day. On this day staff will be engaging in professional learning and reflecting on the school’s progress over the past 4 years in preparation for our school review scheduled for Term 4.
Camp Australia will be available for those requiring their services.
