Student Engagement at Corpus Christi 2026

Year 5 - Lead Well, Live Well

Over the past few weeks, our Year 5 students have been developing their communication skills and exploring what it means to be an effective communicator. They have practiced active listening, taking turns when speaking, asking questions to clarify understanding and communicating their ideas clearly using respectful language, tone and body language.

Students have also been learning strategies to help them manage conflict and give helpful feedback. Through role plays and real life scenarios, they have explored how to use “I Statements” to express their feelings, listen respectfully to different points of view, and work towards compromises and solutions. They have also practiced giving constructive feedback that helps others improve, as well as responding positively when receiving feedback.

These skills are helping students build stronger relationships with their peers and develop the confidence to communicate respectfully, solve disagreements and contribute positively to our Year 5/6 Community.

Year 6 and Prep Buddies Program

Our Year 6 students have been developing their leadership skills through the Better Buddies Program, with a particular focus on kindness, inclusion and supporting others. As part of our 'Do It For Dolly Day' learning, students explored what it means to be a good friend, how we can make others feel included and what we can do when someone may be feeling sad, worried or left out.

Working alongside their Prep Buddies, our Year 6 students discussed and demonstrated ways to use kind words and actions, include others in play and recognise when someone might need help or support. Students also explored the importance of speaking to a trusted adult if they are worried about themselves or someone else.

Through activities such as creating their own Kindness Superheroes, students identified their own ‘kindness superpowers’, including listening, helping, encouraging and sharing.

The Better Buddies Program has provided a special opportunity for our Year 6 students to be positive role models, while helping our younger students feel safe, valued, included and respected.

COMMUNITY WELLBEING

In our Year 5/6 Community Wellbeing, students have been developing their understanding of emotions and positive relationships. They explored how feelings can change throughout the day and how we can use different words to describe different levels of emotional intensity. Students then created their own ‘roller-coaster day’ stories, showing a range of emotions and how these can shift in response to different experiences.

With Bullying No Way Week coming up, students explored what bullying is, the different forms it can take, how it can make people feel and where to seek support. They created “Belonging Mosaics” which highlighted small actions they can take to help others feel included and valued, reinforcing the idea that small acts can have a big impact.

Child Safe Standard 7 - Processes for Complaints and Concerns are child focused.

This week, our staff worked together to strengthen our understanding and implementation of Child Safe Standard 7 – Empowering children to participate in decisions affecting them. We reflected on how we listen to and value children’s voices, ensure they feel safe and respected, and provide meaningful opportunities for them to contribute to our school community.

This important work helps ensure we continue to meet our Child Safe Standards and, most importantly, keep children at the heart of all that we do. Please read the parent / carer newsletter linked below that explains Child Safe Standard 7 in more detail.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

The weekly PBL rule is drawn from our Behaviour Matrix. Each week our children focus on a whole school rule that meets our five school expectations.

            This week’s PBL focus is:

                  We are Kind (online)

We are learning to communicate positively.
