Year 1

Religion
The children retold the Resurrection story using peg people and imagining they were the women preparing spices for Jesus' burial.
Phonics
Last week Year 1 students explored the grapheme ow (as in cow), brainstorming words containing this sound before using them to construct their own sentences. This activity supported students in building both their phonics knowledge and their understanding of basic sentence structure. This week we are looking at the grapheme igh (as in light and right).
Sorting by Attributes
Year 1 is developing a key thinking skill: sorting and classifying - an important skill for both Scientists and Mathematicians who ask: "What is the same? What is different? How can we group these?"
We started by sorting animals into groups based on their features — things like body covering, number of legs, or where they live. Now we are sorting 2D shapes, and everyday classroom items by their features — asking questions like "Does it have straight sides? How many corners? Can it roll or stack?"
