Sustainability through your own lens

The Sustainability through your own lens school photography competition, delivered by Resource Smart Schools, celebrates student creativity through imagery and a written reflection.

Each winning entry will receive $200 for their school to support a sustainability project or initiative. Winners will be invited to the 2027 ResourceSmart Schools Awards, where their work will be showcased as part of a special exhibition.

An adult school staff member must manage and submit each entry on behalf of the student or student group. Entries will be considered across the following categories:

• Lower primary: Prep–Year 4
• Middle years: Years 5–8
• Senior school: Years 9–12.
•  

Competition close: Friday 16 October.

Students looking for ideas, may be interested in learning about and including one of Mitchell Shire’s Focal Species in their submissions.

FREE Cooking Together Facilitator Training

FREE Cooking Together Facilitator Training.

Omnia Community Health are partnering with Expert Eats as part of the Nourishing Neighbourhoods project with Mitchell and Murrindindi Shires to offer FREE training in leading cooking classes or social groups. This training offers evidence-based best practice on how to prepare, plan and deliver cooking classes or support a social cooking group. The training will help build confidence and connection, and is aimed at school communities and staff, community workers, volunteers, local residents and groups.

Anyone wanting to start, support or lead a community cooking group is welcome!

Please share the flyer with your contacts. We are gathering Expressions of Interest and will have a confirmed date and location for the training shortly. There will be one workshop in Mitchell Shire, and one offered in Murrindindi. For those who need to travel to attend, we can offer fuel vouchers to cover travel expenses.

Amplify Creative Hub 

We’re excited to share that Greater Shepparton City Council, through its Amplify Youth Committee, has upcoming workshops at the Amplify Creative Hub — a free, youth-led program for young people aged 12 to 25 interested in music, arts and creative skill development.

🔹19 September – Youth Month Live Music Gig

Looking for bands and musicians (approx. up to age 25–27) to perform.

🔹17 October – Design / Fashion Theme

Ideas include (but not limited):

• Fashion and styling
• Costume-making / cosplay
• Creative design

🔹21 November – End-of-Year Showcase

Celebration event with performances and creative showcases.

Saver Plus 

Saver Plus is a free, 10-month program that provides eligible participants the opportunity to receive matched savings from ANZ for every dollar they save, once they have completed the program (up to $500 for education items, such as school uniforms, computers and textbooks).

Saver Plus was developed by ANZ and the Brotherhood of St Laurence in 2003 and is delivered in partnership with The Smith Family and Berry Street Yooralla. It is funded by ANZ and Department of Social Services. 

To be eligible for Saver Plus, you must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be 18+ years old
• Have a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
• Receive an eligible Commonwealth social security benefit, allowance or payment*
• Be in school yourself OR have a child in school (can be starting school next year)
• Have regular income from work (either yourself or your partner, or receive a carers payment, child support payment, cash in hand or Workcover payment).
