2018 graduating Year 12 student, Marwa Ahmed was formally presented with a 2019 Youthrive Victoria Tertiary scholarship at McGuire College last Friday. Marwa is one three students across Victoria who received the scholarship, and was presented with the Certificate by Youthrive Director, Mr Ross McPherson at a ceremony attended by the current Year 12 cohort, Marwa’s family, the local community and school representatives, business partners and politicians.
Marwa expressed her sincere gratitude to the staff at McGuire College for their ongoing support over her 6 years with us and acknowledged her family and the community's support as well in helping her achieve her goal to study Biomedicine at La Trobe University this year. Marwa credited the $30,000 scholarship as enabling her to take up the opportunity to go directly to university this year and encouraged other students from our area to apply for both this scholarship, and other scholarships when completing their applications to university or TAFE.
We are very proud of Marwa’s achievements and look forward to sharing Marwa’s new journey with her. Well done Marwa!

Careers and Pathways Practitioner
Students from all four Alliance schools headed off early on the morning of 19th March to a Careers Excursion to see first hand the works currently being undertaken on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel. Ant Newham, Careers Project Officer at McGuire College and Graeme Crosbie, Careers Practitioner at Wanganui Park Secondary College accompanied the students on the day. Students participated in a range of careers activities including meeting graduates that work on the project from Engineers through to Communication Managers, careers self-exploration and reflection activities aimed at identifying their interests and strengths. Students toured the information centre where they were able to participate in 3D visual activities simulating what it is like to be inside the tunnel now and once it is finished. The day finished off with group tours of the work site allowing the students to see the works that are currently being undertaken, all being guided by Metro tunnel staff. The students, and staff, really enjoyed the day and found it very informative and interactive. Thanks the Careers Education Association of Victoria for their organisation of the day. Tony Shannon is leading a group of our students to the Railway Academy in Newport on Wednesday 3rd April for another Careers Excursion.
