High Expectations

The College Council election process has just concluded, and the following have been duly elected:

We welcome our new members to our Council and look forward to working together to best support our College and students. I would also like to welcome back Mr Bill Garlic and Mrs Cassie Duncan as our community members

Our first meeting of our new School Council will be held on Tuesday 24th of March. At that meeting we will elect office bearers and discuss co-opting community members.

Year 7 Camp

Our Year 7 students attended camp at Kinglake earlier this term and they all had a wonderful time, bonding, getting to know each other, forming new friendships and solidifying old ones. The students participated in a range of activities, from climbing and hiking to mention just a few. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who attended the camp, led by Mr Harry Potter and Mrs Lisa Williams. Mr Potter, Mrs Williams and their team, (Mr Tan, Ms Shaw, Ms Kite, Ms Chinn, Ms Kite, Mr Newton, Ms Little, Mr Virgona, Ms Mills, Ms Rees, Ms Hamilton, and Ms Young) worked tirelessly creating a safe and nurturing environment for all of our students.

Ms Bendon, Ms Hilton and myself went down for a day and were impressed with the great comradery and team work that was on display by all who attended. A great Camp experience held by all. Feedback from some parents was really positive regarding the timing of the camp – though nervous initially as it was in the second week of term, felt it provided an opportunity for students to forms friendship and settle into the College. We have the same time booked for 2021.

Workshop for Year 7 Parents - Pilot

Mary Tresize- Brown from Sellen ran a Year 7 2020 parent transition sessions on the 25th of February (during the day) and 10th of March (evening).

It was a pilot program where Mary provided parents with some key information about secondary school, answered questions and from feedback received was valued by all who attended.

We are planning to run more of these sessions over the course of the year.

Open Night:

Our Open Night that was scheduled for Wednesday 25th of March has been postponed. Further information regarding this can be found later in the newsletter.

Students to live and learn in India

Lyndhurst Secondary College has once again been selected as one of seven schools across Victoria to travel to India for an immersion experience that will prepare its students to live and work as future leaders on a global scale, thanks to the Victorian Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino said the inaugural Victorian Young Leaders to India Program was an expansion of the award-winning Victorian Young Leaders to China Program, and would give students and teachers the opportunity to travel to India for three weeks during 2020.

Our selected students will experience daily life in an Indian school, explore India's cutting-edge STEM industries, visit historically significant sites and discover the nation's thriving culture, from the traditional to the modern.

The program will also develop students’ intercultural understanding and leadership skills and provide opportunities to strengthen economic and cultural ties between Victoria and India as part of Victoria’s India Strategy: Our Shared Future, launched last year.

Given the current situations, all plans for this trip have been put on hold. Once we get the all clear to proceed then we will seek expressions of interest from our students. This program is being led by Mr Rogers who also travelled with the students last year.

Yard Duty Supervision Reminder

Please be advised that schoolyard supervision occurs at the following times:

Before school, from 8:30am – 8:50am; for the duration of recess and lunchtime; and after school from 3:00pm – 3:20pm (bus supervision stops at 3:30pm). Note that on the last day of each term, due to a shortened day, after school supervision begins at 2:30pm (dismissal time) and ends at 3:00 pm.

School crossing guards commence duty at 2:30pm each school day of the year.

School Holidays

The last day of the school term is Friday 27th March. The school day will finish at 2:30pm and the office will be closed at 3:30 pm on that day. As this is the last newsletter for Term 1, we wish everyone, in advance, a safe and restful holiday. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday 14th of April, for the start of Term 2.
