Remembrance Day Thursday 11 November 2021

On Thursday 11/11/21 Jessica, Lachlan and Nathan of Year 11 joined Ms Campbell and I to commemorate Remembrance Day at The Roseville Club. The commemoration event encouraged reflection on the impact of conflict on people around the world. Every year this event encourages us to forecast our thinking into a future free from the scourge of war. Our students played an active role in this event, with Jessica and Nathan laying a wreath and Lachlan performing the Last Post.

Learning

Across our school, students have been engaging in a range of learning experiences. Students have enthusiastically engaged in practical tasks that were unavailable during the learning from home period. Cooking in the commercial kitchens, conducting experiments and dissections in Science, and developing creative works in the Technology workshops are just some of the fun learning experiences that our students have completed.

Our HSC students have commenced their examinations. We wish our Year 12 students the very best over the coming weeks. The final day of HSC examinations is December 3.

UTS achievement

I am proud to acknowledge the work of 24 Killara High School teachers who have been recognised for their work in supporting pre-service teachers from the University of Technology Sydney. Our teachers were awarded certificates of recognition for their active role in supporting the next generation of teachers. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with UTS.

Buildings works

Improving the learning environment for our students is always a priority. Later this term we will have several large building projects commencing around the school. Our D and E Block toilets will be upgraded, and work will commence on the last day of Term 4 and continue throughout the vacation period. Our school will have a large-scale roofing upgrade taking place and this will involve all blocks, except G and K. Furthermore, our classrooms will improve through a new ceiling and lighting project which will benefit 13 locations around the school. All three of these projects will have significant benefits. I will provide further updates as these works progress.
