The kitchen has been a buzz with activity as the students wind down and get ready for summer holidays.

Each year we finish things off by preparing and sharing something fun, and usually sweet. Students in year 3 baked delicious festive shortbread, while Year 5 and 6 students made festive pancakes and served them with a warm mixed fruit compote.

This week we also held our annual volunteer thank you lunch. Each week our volunteers give up their time to assist students while preparing and sharing. We absolutely cannot run classes without them, and this is just one way that we can show our gratitude for all that they do.  Our year 4 students showed their gratitude by baking Christmas shortbread as a delicious gift just for them.

This is a really exciting time for our year 6 students who now leave Kingswood and make the journey to secondary school. A huge congratulations to all of our year 6’s. Here is what some of them had to say when I asked them to reflect on their SAKG journey:

Kiah and Alana 6M

Our favourite session was when we made the semolina capunti pasta with a salad of the imagination. We enjoyed working together throughout the years and learning new recipes and techniques. We learnt new recipes from many different countries such as Italy, India, China, France and Spain. In the garden we got to know a lot about plants and the different conditions they must be in. Overall, kitchen and garden has been something that we have always looked forward to. Thank you Sonia and Bianca, for making the years at Kingswood more enjoyable.

Aaliyah, Jade, Sandra and Matilda 6H

We have really enjoyed our time during kitchen/garden. This session we made festive pancakes with fruit compote. Over the years, the kitchen is always the thing we have looked forward to. We are going to miss the excitement of coming into the kitchen and making new recipes. We would like to thank the teachers, especially Sonia and Bianca, for their hard work and effort over the years. Thank you SAKG!

2022 has been a wonderful, full year of growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing. We wish all our Kingswood families a safe and happy Christmas filled with lots of family time and of course, good food!

Happy Cooking!
