ANZAC Day

25th April 2021

Our ANZAC Day Assembly hosted by our College Captains Ben, Sarah, Branson and Nikki, took place on Monday 26th April.

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand and is commemorated by both countries on the 25th of April every year to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. It now more broadly commemorates all those who died and served in military operations for their countries.

Anzac Day remains one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand. This is a rare instance of two sovereign countries not only sharing the same Remembrance Day, but making reference to both countries in its name.

Cheltenham Secondary College were honoured to have guest speakers from within our Chelt Family. College parent Mr. John Throssell spoke of his family members, from varying generations and how their lives were impacted by World War I, World War II and The Vietnam War. We are particularly proud of our year 8 student Jessie, who spoke beautifully in front of the entire college. Jessie's speech gave us a wonderful insight into what life was like for an enlisted man from across the ditch, from the point of view of her Great Grandfather Cedric. Jessie showed us some spectacular photos of Cedric's travels.
