Mr Reid's Sports Report

Basketball, Basketball and more Basketball. Can you tell that I enjoy basketball as much as some of our students?

How good is West Beach??

Last Tuesday saw the Adelaide 36ers (Mens NBL team) come to West Beach primary to play a game of basketball against students from our school. This was a hard job to select these students to vs the Adelaide 36ers. To make this a fair process, student had to play a 5 min game of basketball against Mr Mulree, Mr Bahnish and myself to trial to vs the 36ers. It is safe to say that those students who made the team, had their 'grand final' against, Mulree and Bahnish, and myself. They were tough games which held students in good form to play the 36ers. Safe to say that our students took it up to the 36ers from the get go.

Tehei dropping more three pointers than she's had hot dinners really ignited the crowd. The 36ers have never lost to a school team before in their history and thanks to some late heroics by Tehei, we took them to over time. We can't complain about that!

Thank you to the Adelaide 36ers who brought out a singlet for every single student. An enormous effort.

The Adelaide Lightning (Womens NBL team) also visited West Beach primary last Thursday. Rooms 7, 8 and 15 were lucky enough to participate in a clinic run by some of the players. Thanks to the Adelaide Lightning for coming out and running a clinic. It was greatly appreciated.

Last Wednesday, We had Stephen and the guys from SPORTSMATCH come to West Beach to conduct fitness testing with our Year 4/5s and Year 6/7 students. We tested students on their vertical jump, grip strength, speed, agility and endurance. It then generated an individual report detailing which Sports students body types/fitness types are most suited towards. Some students results showed Football, Basketball and Soccer as their sports while others got Running, Powerlifting, Karate and Floorball.

Thursday saw West Beach athletes travel down the road towards Henley to compete at the annual District Athletics. A great day was had by all. Our students did themselves and the school proud as they competed in their individual events. There were lots of ribbons, smiles and a few invitations to State Athletics Day. Congratulations to Zane Rooney and Brayden Mckenzie who were invited for coming first in the 10 boys Long Jump and the 13 Boys 800m. Well done boys! I'm sure you'll do yourselves and West Beach proud on the day.

As always, we finished the day with relays. All but one West Beach team placed with either a First, Second or Third. Congratulations to all.

Thanks again to all parents who supported on the day. Your help does not go unnoticed.

Stay tuned for more Sports News! We have Volleyball, Tag Rugby and Hockey carnivals coming up.

As always, Go West Beach!!!!

Kind regards,
