Room 3

BOOK WEEK 2020

This year the Book Week theme was “Curious Creatures”. We had great fun dressing up in a variety of costumes relating to our favourite books and story book characters. We even had a few “Curious Creatures”!

Being able to walk around our local school neighbourhood was a great way to share our Book Week celebrations with our community.

Here are Room 3’s Book Week reflections…………

Did you know that over the years some of our students have had the opportunity to write to some students from ‘Smile English School’ in Japan?

Room 10 has been busy preparing some New Year cards to send to these students. The Japanese may not send very many Christmas cards, but they do send a lot of special postcards called Nengajo’ that are delivered on New Year's Day. New Year is a very special holiday in Japan - it's probably the biggest item on the calendar of annual events.

These cards will often feature the zodiac animal for the coming year. Can you guess what the animal is? We hope we receive our replies by the end of this term!

Science News

Room 12 have been learning about climate change. What is climate change, you ask? Well, climate change is a very important issue. Carbon emissions are released into the atmosphere from things like plastic being thrown into landfill. This is bad because it is causing global warming and could affect our Earth. Room 12 have come up with a great idea to help solve this problem. They have been experimenting with making bioplastic and creating products out of this that are biodegradable and will not release carbon emissions into the atmosphere as they break down. They have made interesting things like glad wrap for sandwiches, spoons, cups and containers. A few groups will be attending a Climate Change conference in a couple of weeks to present their ideas to a panel of experts in the field. This will help the students to be more mindful about how they use plastic in the future. Power to the bioplastics!

Book Week

In week 2 we all celebrated Book Week and didn’t the creatures come out to play. A great time was had by all and here are the winners.

Then last week the lucky door prize was decided and it was a very hard decision. Congratulations goes to Room 1 for winning this and next week they will get their prize of a pizza lunch for the class.

I would like to thank everyone for your wonderful ideas and costumes to make this a rewarding time.

Regards,

Denise
